In an embodiment of the method of handling mobile station identifiers, at least one network element that used entire mobile station identifiers in performing packet data session handling functions is programmed to use less than the entire mobile station identifiers.

Method of handling mobile station identifiers

A method is provided for routing an emergency call. The method comprises receiving an emergency call and identifying an end node associated with the call. The end node may be a communications device involved in establishing the emergency call that is geographically near the originator of the emergency call. A look-up table is then accessed to identify the appropriate public safety answering point (PSAP) associated with the end node, and the emergency call is routed to the identified PSAP.

Method and apparatus for emergency call routing using an end node

The method for transferring data sends the data as part of first and second permanent identifiers during a communication procedure prior to establishing a traffic channel in the communication system. Besides the data, the first permanent identifier includes routing information to a home system forming part of the communication system. The second permanent identifier is an expanded permanent identifier with the data forming at least part of the expanded portion thereof. Based at least on recognizing a portion of the second permanent identifier, a home system sends the first and second permanent identifiers to a destination entity. The destination entity extracts the data from the first and second permanent identifiers. In this manner, a traffic channel does not need to be established to transmit the data.

Method for transferring data

A method of communication to at least one wireless unit originating an emergency call. The method includes the step of receiving one or more routing tags associated with a wireless unit originating a '9-1-1' call. A routing tag may comprise, for example, a string of numbers corresponding with Emergency Service Routing Digits ('ESRD') and/or an Emergency Service Routing Key (&#x201c;ESRK&#x201d;). In addition to the routing tag, a mobile equipment identification number (&#x201c;MEIN&#x201d;) and/or a paging identity (&#x201c;PGID&#x201d;) may also be received by a database accessible by wireless network infrastructure elements, such as a mobile switching center (&#x201c;MSC&#x201d;), as well as the emergency call center, including the local public service answering point, for example. In response to this receiving step, at least one unique identifier (e.g., unique call back number) may be generated. This unique identifier may be a dialable number to enable the emergency call center to call back the wireless unit originating the &#x201c;9-1-1&#x201d; call. Thereafter, the unique identifier may be transmitted back to the MSC, along with the emergency call center, for example. Consequently, an emergency call back may be launched by the emergency call center using the unique identifier to reach the MSC generally, and more particularly, the wireless unit originating the &#x201c;9-1-1&#x201d; call.

In the method of updating a unique call back number for a wireless unit having originated an emergency call, a unique call back number for the wireless unit is updated (e.g., changed or added to a list of unique call back numbers) based on a received unique call back number.

A system and method are provided for managing emergency services received by a mobile terminal having a temporary wireless directory number (TDN). The system includes an emergency call register (ECR) network and a disaster recovery call center (DRCC). The DRCC authorizes the mobile terminal to receive emergency services and provides service information for managing the emergency services to the ECR network if the mobile terminal is authorized to receive the emergency services.

A method of communication to at least one wireless unit originating an emergency call. The method includes the step of receiving at least one tag identifier in response to the emergency call originating from the at least one wireless unit. Once the tag identifier is received, a wireless call back number corresponding with the at least one tag identifier may be transmitted. A public service answering point emergency call register ('PSAP-ECR') may receive the at least one tag identifier and transmits the wireless call back number over a D interface.

Method of associating data with a call to a call center

An emergency routing number is assigned to each switch in a wireless network. When a switch of the wireless network routes an emergency call to a Public Service Answering Point (PSAP), the switch sends the emergency routing number as the calling party number and provides the PSAP with the identifier of the mobile station. If the emergency call drops, the PSAP performs a call back using the emergency routing number as the called party number. The switch that routed the emergency call from the mobile station to the PSAP receives the call back. The PSAP also sends the identifier of the mobile station to the switch. When a switch receives its emergency routing number as the called party number, the switch recognizes an emergency call back situation and pages the mobile station identified by the mobile station identifier received in association with the emergency routing number. The mobile station is then reconnected with the PSAP.

Emergency call back method

In the method, a paging identifier for a wireless unit is obtained using a unique call back identifier for an emergency call placed by the wireless unit in response to an emergency call back. Then, an emergency intersystem page, which provides the paging identifier of the wireless unit and identifies the emergency intersystem page as requesting paging of the wireless unit for an emergency call back, is sent.

In the method of emergency service call back in a wireless system, an emergency intersystem page is sent from a first system to a second system such that the emergency intersystem page is identifiable as requesting paging of a mobile station for an emergency call back. The second system receives the mobile station identifier (MSID) and mobile equipment identity (MEID) of the paged mobile station from the first system in or with the emergency intersystem page, and uses the MSID to page the mobile station. The second system verifies the page response is from the paged mobile station using the MEID received from the responding mobile station and the MEID received in association with the emergency intersystem page. The emergency call back can then be completed when the mobile station is verified.

An emergency routing number (ELRN) is assigned to each switch in a wired communication network. When a switch of the wired communication network routes an emergency call to a Public Service Answering Point (PSAP), the switch sends the ELRN as the calling party number and provides the PSAP with a hardware identifier (HID). The HID identifies, at the switch, the landline connecting the switch to the wired phone initiating the emergency call. If the emergency call drops, the PSAP performs a call back using the ELRN as the called party number. The switch that routed the emergency call to the PSAP receives the call back. The PSAP also sends the HID to the switch. When a switch receives its ELRN as the called party number, the switch recognizes an emergency call back situation and routes the emergency call back on the landline identified by the HID.

A method for routing emergency calls is provided for emergency calls placed over a packet-switched network () from a Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) () at a remote location (). The method includes: registering the CPE () with a home Internet Service Provider (ISP) () through a remote ISP () that is providing the CPE () access to the packet-switched network (); determining that the CPE is at a remote location (); obtaining a local Internet Protocol (IP) address that corresponds to a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) () serving the remote location (); routing non-emergency calls to the home ISP () for call processing; and, handling emergency calls locally at the remote ISP () in accordance with the obtained local IP address.

Optimized routing of VoIP emergency calls

In the method of recognizing fraudulent emergency calls from a mobile station, a mobile station originating an emergency call is identified based on a mobile equipment identity received from the mobile station. A count of emergency calls received from the identified mobile station is generated and an incoming emergency call from the identified mobile station is determined as fraudulent based on the count.

Method of recognizing fraudulent wireless emergency service calls

A system is provided to allow a network to obtain the location of a mobile station (e.g. mobile phone) having AGPS/AFLT CDMA capability during an emergency call&#x2014;without the use of the MPCAP parameter. The MPC invokes the PDE, which is IS-801 AGPS capable, without the MPCAP parameter. The PDE then queries the mobile for its geolocation capabilities, in the absence of the MPCAP parameter. This allows a visited network (e.g. the network in which the mobile station is roaming) to obtain a position (based on IS-801 AGPS/AFLT) for roaming mobile stations that are CDMA AGPS/AFLT capable&#x2014;without the use of the network MPCAP parameter.
