An integrated motor and drive assembly includes a motor, a fan, and a drive unit. The motor is responsive to at least one drive signal. The fan is axially aligned with the motor and operable to generate a cooling flow. The drive unit is axially aligned with the fan and operable to generate the drive signal. The cooling flow traverses the motor and the drive unit.

A base plate for a package to inhibit an object's inadvertent displacement when the plate and object are positioned within a shipping container. The plate is composed of a rectangular sheet of paperboard or sheet form material folded at least once, and preferably twice, both horizontally and vertically to form multiple sheets in superimposed, overlapping relation thereby creating a support or base plate. A longitudinally extending separation in the upper of the sheet form supports include a plurality of separations extending from opposite edges of the longitudinal separation to form cantilevered tabs extending from opposite sides of the separation. A recess in the lower sheet form support underlying the longitudinally extending separation permits deflection of the tabs into the recess when an object, such as a motor, is placed thereon to thereby partially capture, cradle and cushion the object upon the support plate. The package is formed by shrink wrapping the motor and the base plate and placing the same into a shipping container.

An integrated motor drive system includes a variable speed electric motor, a fan connected to the electric motor to generate an air flow as the motor rotates, and a motor drive connected to the electric motor, the drive including a heat sink disposed between the motor and the drive and having a plurality of asymmetrically spaced apart heat transfer fins transferring heat generated by power components in the drive to the air flow. The fan is connected to a one of either the rotor of the variable speed motor or to an auxiliary fan motor controlled independently of the variable speed motor. A fan shroud on one end of the motor acts as an air duct member adapted for dividing and directing the flow of air from the fan to sets of heat transfer fins on the heat sink. A method of operating the drive integrated type motor system includes generating motor speed command signals in the drive based on inputs from an operator through an operator interaface unit on the drive. The interface includes a display area for indicating motor speed in units of % base speed or actual motor RPM.

A moisture drain plug for use with a cylindrical motor housing provides a plurality of diverse drainage pathways to promote the egress of moisture from within the housing. The plurality of diverse drainage pathways includes a first set of primary moisture egress pathways and a second set of secondary moisture egress pathways. Should one or more of the primary moisture egress pathways become clogged, the secondary moisture egress pathways provide for more than adequate drainage from the motor housing.
