An apparatus for supporting a dock leveler in a manner to reduce the effects of free fall and stump-out. The apparatus includes the use of a retractable support leg.

A dock leveler includes a support leg system configured to remain in a support position when the dock leveler descends rapidly and retract when the dock leveler descends slowly. A disengaging system is also included to disengage the support legs from retracting when the dock level lip is in a pendant position. A method of operating a dock leveler includes keeping a support leg in a support position when a dock leveler descends rapidly and retracting a support leg when the dock leveler descends slowly.

A support leg system and method for supporting a dock leveler. The support leg system includes a support leg, cam, engaging surface, and counterbalancing apparatus. The method includes moving a support leg to a non-supporting position when the dock leveler ramp is engaged with a vehicle, and moving the support to a supporting position if the dock leveler ramp descends too quickly.

The dock leveler is adapted to be mounted to a loading dock and includes a ramp, a guard, and a biasing member. The ramp is rotatably coupled to the loading dock and the guard is rotatably coupled to the ramp. The guard is rotated between a raised position that forms a barrier and a lowered position that permits loading equipment to freely pass. The biasing member is coupled to the guard and biases the guard toward the raised position when the guard is in the raised position and biases the guard toward the lowered position when the guard is in the lowered position.

A dock leveler including a ramp having a rear edge movably interconnected with a loading dock, an intermediate member movable relative to the ramp, and an inflatable assembly positioned to cause relative movement between the ramp and the intermediate member upon inflation of the inflatable assembly, thereby resulting in movement of the ramp. The intermediate member is movably mounted to a pit floor, a support structure, or the ramp. A roller member is mounted to an end of the intermediate member. The inflatable assembly can be operatively associated with a vacuum device to allow for selective removal of gas from the inflatable assembly. Alternatively, a hydraulic assembly and a support frame may replace the inflatable assembly and intermediate member. The dock leveler includes hook-type bracket members and mounting bores to accommodate either powering arrangement.

There is a support positioned under the inflatable assembly. The support is movably coupled to the ramp.

Dock leveler having an inflatable member

A vehicle restraint comprising a base member (e.g., a track), a carriage movably mounted to the base member, and a restraining member (e.g., a pivotable hook) mounted to the carriage and movable between and engaged position and a disengaged position. The restraining member is biased toward the engaged position. The restraining member is biased by a biasing member in the form of a gas spring operatively positioned between the restraining member and the carriage. The restraining member is pivotable, and the restraint further includes a lever interconnected with the restraining member. In this embodiment, the biasing member is interconnected with the lever to bias the restraining member toward an engaged position. The biasing member can be positioned to bias the restraining member toward the disengaged position when the restraining member is in the disengaged position and to bias the restraining member toward the engaged position when the restraining member is in the engaged position.

Vehicle restraint and method for modifying the same

A dock leveler having a ramp, a support leg for supporting the ramp, and an extension lip that is movably connected to the ramp. The support leg is capable of movement relative to the ramp from a supporting position to a retracted position, and the lip is movable to an extended position. Movement of the lip toward the extended position results in movement of the support leg from the retracted position to the supporting position. The dock leveler is operated by raising the ramp above a resting position, retracting the support leg from a supporting position to a retracted position, contacting the lip with a vehicle, extending the lip to an extended position, and moving the support leg from the retracted position to the supporting position during the extending step.

Dock leveler having an improved support leg mechanism

A vehicle restraint adapted to be used at a loading dock to restrain a vehicle during loading and unloading operations. The restraint includes a carriage adapted to be mounted to the loading dock, and a restraining member (e.g., a hook) connected to the carriage. The carriage is movable relative to the loading dock between an inoperative position and an operative position that is typically higher than the inoperative position, and is biased towards the operative position when in the operative position. The restraining member is movable relative to the carriage between a restraining position and a nonrestraining position. The restraining member is capable of restraining an ICC bar when in the restraining position, and is biased toward the restraining position independent of the bias of the carriage.

A dock leveler comprising a ramp movable between a lowered position and a raised position, an inflatable member positioned to move the ramp to its raised position upon inflation of the inflatable member, and an inflating device operatively connected with the internal cavity. The inflatable member includes upper and lower portions at least partially defining an internal cavity. An insert member is positioned in the internal cavity for maintaining a volume of gas between the upper and lower portions. Preferably, the insert member functions to maintain the inflatable member in engagement with a downwardly facing surface of the ramp, thereby inhibiting the presence of debris between the inflatable member and the ramp, and further expediting inflation of the inflatable member.

A dock leveler including a ramp is movable to a raised position by inflation of an inflatable member, such as an air bag assembly. One or more filler members are located within an internal cavity defined by the air bag assembly, to occupy void volume therein. The filler members expedite inflation of the bag assembly when an inflating device is operated to introduce air under pressure into the bag assembly. The filler members also function to maintain the bag assembly in an engaged condition with the underside of the ramp, and to prevent the air bag assembly from fully collapsing in order to prolong bag life.

A lip lifting mechanism for the pivotable lip of a dock leveler moves the lip to an operative extended position as the ramp of the dock leveler is moved from a raised position toward a lowered position. The lip lifting mechanism includes a push bar, a lifting rod, a lug engageable with the lip through the lifting rod, and a link arrangement to which the lifting rod is pivotably mounted, with the push bar being engageable with the link arrangement upon downward movement of the ramp. The push bar moves the link arrangement and the lifting rod into an over-center toggle position to extend the lip. Engagement of the lip with the bed of a truck results in the link arrangement and the lifting rod being moved to an under-center release position, so as to enable the lip to fall to a pendant position when the truck moves away from the dock. The invention contemplates a unique construction of the engagement structure between the push bar and the link arrangement for increasing the force applied to the lifting rod by the push bar, and a trip structure for ensuring that the lip is always returned to its pendant position when the dock leveler is in a lowered, storage position.
