Embodiments include an infusion-occlusion system having a delivery catheter, a guide catheter adapted to receive the delivery catheter, and a guidewire with an occlusion device adapted to be received within the guide catheter. The guide catheter of the catheter kit may be provided with an occlusion device at the distal end of the guide catheter. The delivery catheter may have an accessory lumen, coaxial or co-linear lumen, a supporting mandrel, or an occlusion device at its distal end. Moreover, according to some embodiments, occlusion devices may be a single material or a composite balloon having an inner liner and an outer layer of different materials, a high compliance low pressure balloon, or a filter device that restricts particles from passing through but does not restrict fluid, such as blood. An inflation device with a large volume and low volume syringe can be used to inflate the balloon.

Infusion treatment agents, catheters, filter devices, and occlusion devices, and use thereof

A locking component for locking a medical device onto a guide wire. Such medical devices include, for example, an embolic filter assembly used to capture embolic material that may be created and released into a patient's vasculature during a stenting or angioplasty procedure. The embolic filter assembly tracks along the guide wire, and is delivered to a treatment site where it is locked in place and deployed. The locking component enables the filter assembly to lock onto any standard guide wire, and does not require a modified guide wire that has a specially-designed fitting or stop to accomplish the locking function.

A separate deliverable embolic protection device filter that attaches to a helical coil at a distal end of a conventional guide, for use in a blood vessel when an interventional procedure is being performed to capture any embolic material which may be created and released into the bloodstream during the procedure. The device includes a filter assembly with a proximal end and a distal end, and a guide wire connector attached to the distal end of the filter assembly. The guide wire connector is able to couple with the helical coil of the guide wire. A restraining sheath placed over the filter assembly in a coaxial arrangement maintains the filter assembly in a collapsed position and delivers the filter assembly separately to the helical coil of the guide wire, and then the guide wire connector is joined to the helical coil. Alternatively, the guide wire can include a rotatable coil section forming a portion of the distal tip coil on the guide wire which is adapted to be coupled to the filter assembly. This arrangement allows the filter assembly to be rotatably mounted onto the guide wire.

A guiding catheter system uses one or more steering lumens embedded within the walls of a flexible shaft. The steering lumens are in fluid contact with inflation lumens that are accessible from a proximal part of the guide catheter. The catheter is steered by pressurizing or depressurizing the inflation lumens, thereby inflating or deflating the steering lumens. The change in steering lumen pressure causes a change of the catheter's distal end, allowing the catheter to be steered.

Articulating guide catheter

An improved intracorporeal device such as a guide wire or other guiding member for use within a patient's body that is at least in part visible under magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) but is not detrimentally affected by the imaging is disclosed. The intracorporeal device has a non-conductive proximal core section, an essentially non-magnetic metallic distal core section that is preferably more flexible than the proximal core section, and that has an MRI visible member or coil in the distal section.

An intracorporeal device such as a guide wire with an elongated core having a radiopaque and optionally MRI-compatible markers embedded in a polymer sleeve disposed on a distal section of the elongated core is disclosed. The marker sleeve may be secured to a tapered portion of the distal core section or a constant diameter portion of the distal core section. Individual markers may be formed by radiopaque ribbons, bands, or strips, or may be in the form of a helical coil.

The ultrasonic angioplasty transmission wire for use in an ultrasonic angioplasty device comprises an inner layer of a first ultrasound transmitting material, and at least one outer coaxial shell or tube of a second ultrasound transmitting material different from the first ultrasound transmitting material. The first inner layer and one or more of the outer coaxial shells or tubes can be formed of ultrasound transmitting metal compositions such as stainless steel, nickel-titanium, or aluminum, or other similar suitable ultrasound transmitting metals. In one embodiment, the first inner layer is formed of a nickel-titanium alloy, and at least one outer coaxial shell or tube is formed of stainless steel. In another embodiment, the first inner layer is formed of nickel-titanium alloy, a first outer coaxial shell or tube is formed of stainless steel, and a second outer coaxial shell or tube is formed of the nickel-titanium alloy.

Ultrasonic angioplasty transmission wire

An ultrasonic angioplasty device includes a catheter and a connector assembly for interconnecting an ultrasound transmission member to an ultrasound transducer. A rotation control device is provided that prevents the ultrasound transmission member from rotating relative to the catheter. Rotation is prevented by a fastener aligning the connector assembly with the elongated catheter body, or a key member that fits in a correspondingly shaped slot in a proximal shaft portion of the catheter, for preventing rotation of the connector assembly relative to the catheter.
