A method performed by an audio output device is provided for detecting instabilities and taking mitigating actions. Specifically, an A-weighted dBA level of a raw feedback signal exceeding a threshold level trigger, at least, muting the driver. The described methods apply to detecting instabilities across a broad frequency spectrum.

Broad spectrum instability detection and mitigation

A wind noise reduction system including a beamformer, a comparator, and a voice mixer is provided. The beamformer may be an MVDR beamformer, and generates a beamformed signal based on a first microphone signal and a second microphone signal. The comparator generates a comparison signal based on the beamformed signal and a wind microphone signal. The comparison signal may be further based on a beamformed energy level of the beamformed signal and a wind energy level of the wind microphone signal. The voice mixer generates an output voice signal based on the beamformed signal, the wind microphone signal, and the comparison signal. The wind noise reduction system may further include a wind microphone corresponding to the wind microphone signal. The wind microphone may be arranged on a portion of a wearable audio device configured to be seated in a concha of a wearer.

Input selection for wind noise reduction on wearable devices

Audio systems, methods, and processor instructions are provided that detect voice activity of a user and provide an output voice signal. The systems, methods, and instructions receive a plurality of microphone signals and combine the plurality of microphone signals according to a first combination and a second combination. The first combination produces a primary signal having enhanced response in the direction of the user's mouth, and the second combination produces a reference signal having reduced response in the direction of the user's mouth. The primary signal and the reference signal are added and subtracted to produce a voice-enhanced signal and a voice-reduced signal, respectively. The voice-enhanced signal and the voice-reduced signal are compares and an output voice signal is provided based upon the comparison.

Audio systems and methods for voice activity detection

Audio systems, methods, and processor instructions are provided that detect voice activity of a user and provide an output voice signal. The systems, methods, and instructions receive a plurality of microphone signals and combine the plurality of microphone signals according to a first combination and a second combination. The first combination produces a primary signal having enhanced response in the direction of the user's mouth, and the second combination produces a reference signal having reduced response in the direction of the user's mouth. The primary signal and the reference signal are added and subtracted to produce a summation signal and a difference signal, respectively. The summation signal and the difference signal are compares and an output voice signal is provided based upon the comparison.

The present disclosure generally provides an apparatus and method of controlling an audible signal generated by an audio device to improve the sound quality of the generated audible signal and/or sound quality perceived by a user. In some embodiments, the audio device is able to improve the sound quality generated by the audio device that is generating audible sound based on any type of audio signal. The processes described herein allow the audible signal processor to determine the acoustic fingerprint of the environment in which the audio device is positioned, and thus by use of the method steps disclosed herein to optimize the sound quality in one or more frequency bands of a generated audible signal in real time based on the determined acoustic fingerprint.

Apparatus and method for optimizing sound quality of a generated audible signal

Embodiments of the disclosure generally include a method and apparatus for receiving and separating unwanted external noise from an audible input received from an audible source using an audible signal processing system that contains a plurality of audible signal sensing devices that are arranged and configured to detect an audible signal that is received from any position or angle within three dimensional space. The audible signal processing system is configured to analyze the received audible signals using a first signal processing technique that is able to separate unwanted low frequency range noise from the received audible signal and a second signal processing technique that is able to separate unwanted higher frequency range noise from the received audible signal. The audible signal processing system can then combine the signals processed by the first and second signal processing techniques to form a desired audible signal that has a high signal-to-noise ratio throughout the full speech range.
