Apparatus, methods, and other embodiments associated with image morphology operations that provide fractional pixel dilation and erosion are described. According to one embodiment, an apparatus includes scaling logic configured to scale up an input data structure of image pixel data from a first number of pixels to a second number of pixels to generate a scaled-up data structure of image pixel data. The apparatus also includes morphology logic configured to perform a morphological operation on the scaled-up data structure of image pixel data to generate a morphed data structure of image pixel data. The apparatus further includes sub-sampling logic configured to sub-sample the morphed data structure of image pixel data to generate an output data structure of image pixel data. The output data structure of image pixel data has a same number of pixels as the input data structure of image pixel data.

System and method for fractional pixel dilation and erosion

An image forming apparatus performs periodic line based image transformation in order to correct for irregularities in a mirror and for mechanical disturbances that may occur during the rotation of the mirror. The irregularities of the mirror and the mechanical disturbances that occur during the rotation of the mirror may be measured at installation or may be measured during an operation of the image formation apparatus. The characteristics of the mirror are stored as configuration data, which is referenced by a direction of rotation. The image forming apparatus adjusts image data according to the configuration data. The adjustment may occur through data manipulation in stored image data. Alternatively, the adjustment may occur through the control of a pixel rate used to modulate the image data into a transmitted laser beam. The image data may be received by a host device or the image data may be generated by a scanner.

Oscillating mirror line based image transformation

Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with image scaling are described. According to one embodiment, a method includes acquiring a set of amplitude values describing pixels in an image. A target pixel is identified from the set of pixels and a preceding pixel is identified to the target pixel. An amplitude range of amplitudes is defined between the amplitude of the preceding pixel and the target pixel. The method determines whether the interpolation between the preceding pixel and target pixel will result in an interpolated pixel having an interpolated amplitude outside of the amplitude range. An interpolation slope is determined that reduces overshoot or undershoot in interpolation pixels generated between the target pixel and the preceding pixel.

Modified bicubic interpolation

A system and method for processing digital images that efficiently buffers pixel data relating to digital images is disclosed. Pixel values are read from an image storage memory and temporarily stored in a buffer memory according to a non-raster pattern. The processing of pixels also occurs according to a more efficient non-raster patter.

A method for reducing electromagnetic emissions by an image scanner comprises cyclically dithering a frequency of a clock signal of the image scanner by repeated dither cycles, determining a phase of the dither cycle when a scan pass of a page of a document commences; and commencing all subsequent scan passes of the page of the document at a particular phase shift from the determined phase of the dither cycle.

Method and apparatus for scanning an image

A pulse width modulation technique is disclosed for use in an image forming device such as a laser printer or a photocopier. The technique implements a pacer to synthesize the frequency of a serializer circuit by stretching (or shrinking) pixel pulse train data. The pacer stretches the pixel pulse train data in accord with increment data that is based upon information about the image forming device, such as the number of bits in the pixel pulse train data, the number of bits in print engine pulse train, the target print engine frequency, and the serializer frequency. The technique can be implemented with digital circuits that provide digital test data.

A method and apparatus for faster monochrome printing in an in-line electrophotographic printer is described. The printer is configured such that it has more light emitting sources for use in an image transfer assembly for black than for image transfer assemblies for any other color in the printer. When printing a color print job, less than all of the light emitting sources in the black image transfer assembly are used. A print controller directs print data for a monochrome print job to all of the available light emitting sources in the black image transfer assembly and increases the print medium transport speed. The system and method may be configured to operate with dedicated data channels for each light emitting source or may share some data channels for monochrome and color print jobs.

Faster monochrome printing for in-line electrophotographic color printers

Imaging devices incorporating memory are described herein. According to various embodiments, device driver information may be stored in the memory. Subsequent to the device driver being uploaded to a host device and the host device installing the device driver, the device driver information is deleted from the memory of the imaging device.

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a method for estimating usage of a print substance. The method comprises receiving a plurality of pixels of a page to be printed, and generating, for one of the plurality of pixels, a look-up address based on (i) pixel bits of the one of the plurality of pixels, and (ii) pixel bits of one or more other pixels proximal to the one of the plurality of pixels. The method further comprises estimating an amount of print substance deposited on the page at a location associated with the one of the plurality of pixels based on reference to a print substance amount in a table of print substance amounts, wherein the reference to the print substance amount in the table is made using the look-up address.

Method and apparatus for estimating usage of print substance in a printer

A system including a communication interface, a memory, and a processor. The communication interface is configured to receive data. The memory is divided into a first retention region and a second retention region, wherein the first retention region is configured to store data for a first predetermined period of time, and the second retention region is configured to store data for a second predetermined period of time. The processor is configured to i) initially store, within the first retention region of the memory, the data that is received, and ii) in response to the data that is received having been stored in the first retention region of the memory for a time limit that exceeds the first predetermined period of time, transfer the data that is received from the first retention region of the memory to the second retention region of the memory.

Method and apparatus for optimizing memory usage in an imaging device

Methods and apparatuses that facilitate the alignment of multiple color planes of a latent image in a multi-beam multi-pass printer. The methods include determining, during a first pass of a transfer medium of a multi-beam printer, a first time interval between when at least one light beam from a multi-beam device is detected and when a top of a page is detected at a selected location of the transfer medium, the multi-beam device including a plurality of light beam sources, and the first pass to form a first color plane of a latent image on the transfer medium. The methods further include selecting, based at least in part on the determined first time interval, a first one of the plurality of light beam sources to begin illuminating the transfer medium to create the first color plane on the transfer medium during the first pass of the transfer medium.

Alignment of color planes in multi-beam multi-pass printers

Methods of filtering random noise and salt and pepper noise that minimize a loss of detail in an image are described. Sample values of an image that are within a tolerance within a sliding window are used to normalize a sample centered in the sliding window to filter random noise and minimize a loss of detail in an image. Sample values of an image in a sliding window are sorted into a sorted array, and mapped to values based on pre-defined regions of the sorted array to filter salt and pepper noise and minimize a loss of detail in an image.

The image reproduction system includes image processing hardware configured to receive a plurality of pixels corresponding to a scan document, perform color processing on the plurality of pixels to produce color-processed scan data, perform monochrome processing on the plurality of pixels to produce monochrome-processed scan data, produce color distribution data for the plurality of pixels, and determine from the color distribution data that the scan document is one of a color document or a monochrome document. Based at least on determining that the scan document is one of a color document or a monochrome document, one of the color-processed scan data or the monochrome-processed scan data are discarded.

Method and system for performing image processing on a document based on a delayed determination of whether the document is monochrome or color

Some of the embodiments of the present disclosure provide an apparatus for processing a starting image, comprising: a first unit configured to provide starting pixel data from a selected portion of the starting image, wherein the selected portion is less than an entirety of the starting image; and a second unit configured to receive the starting pixel data from the first unit and to selectively provide to a look up table (LUT) an address of replacement pixel data for at least a pixel of the selected portion of the starting image.
