A float collar for use in a wellbore includes: a float valve; a tubular housing having a coupling formed at a longitudinal end thereof for assembly as part of a downhole tubular; a sheath bonding the float valve to an inner surface of the housing within a flow bore thereof, the sheath having a bore formed therein; and a ball deflector seated against a top of the sheath and having: an upper grate and a lower anchor engaged with an inner surface of the sheath adjacent the bore. The float valve, the sheath, and the ball deflector are made from materials drillable by a polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) drill bit.

A rasping shoe for non-rotational deployment of a casing string into a wellbore includes: a tubular body; and a nose mounted to an end of the tubular body. The nose includes: a base portion made from a drillable metal or alloy; a plurality of blades protruding from an outer surface of the base portion; a plurality of broaching cutters mounted to an outer surface of each blade at a rearward portion thereof; and a plurality of gouging cutters mounted to the outer surface of each blade at a forward portion thereof.

A centralizer for mounting onto a downhole tubular incudes a cylindrical body. The body has: a plurality of blades forming a periphery thereof, a first portion with an inner surface, and a second portion having a groove formed in an inner surface thereof for receiving a stop collar. The stop collar includes: a compressible slip ring having teeth formed in an inner surface thereof and a pair of tapered outer surfaces, and a pair of cam rings, each cam ring having a tapered inner surface. An outer diameter of each cam ring is greater than a diameter of the inner surface of the first portion and less than a diameter of the groove. An assembly tool is operable to drive the tapered surfaces together, thereby compressing the slip ring such that the teeth engage a periphery of the downhole tubular.

A stop collar for mounting to a downhole tubular includes: a cylindrical housing having a threaded inner surface and a tapered inner surface; a compressible slip ring having teeth formed in an inner surface thereof and a pair of tapered outer surfaces; a cam ring having a tapered inner surface; a seal receivable in the housing; a cylindrical bolt having a threaded outer surface. A natural outer diameter of each ring is greater than a minor diameter of the threaded surfaces. Screwing the threaded surfaces of the housing and the bolt is operable to drive the tapered surfaces together and compress the seal, thereby compressing the slip ring such that the teeth engage a periphery of the tubular and energizing the seal into engagement with the periphery of the tubular.

A float collar for assembly with a composite string of downhole tubulars includes: a tubular housing made from a composite material and having couplings formed at longitudinal ends thereof; a float valve disposed in a bore of the housing; a sheath connecting the float valve to the housing and sealing an interface between the float valve and the housing; and a guide operable to prevent side-tracking of a drill bit into the housing while drilling out the float valve and the sheath.

A method of closing a stage tool in a wellbore includes releasing a closing tube into the wellbore; attaching the closing tube to the stage tool; and expanding the closing tube, thereby closing a port of the stage tool.

A top latch-in plug includes a housing having a bore and a transitionable seal. The transitionable seal seals the bore of the housing when in a first configuration, and the transitionable seal unseals the bore when in a second configuration. The transitionable seal is triggerable to transition from the first configuration to the second configuration. A casing floatation system includes a casing having a pre-load collar and a landing collar; and a lower bottom latch-in plug. The lower bottom latch in plug includes a catch mechanism compatible with the pre-load collar; and a landing mechanism compatible with the landing collar.

An apparatus and method are disclosed for wet shoe applications in cementing tubing in a wellbore. A wet shoe tool has a seat and an insert in a flow bore of the tool. A first wiper plug is deployed down the tubing at least behind the cement and seats on the insert, which can then be moved in the flow bore to a bypass position allowing for fluid flow through the tool to produce a wet shoe track. A second plug is deployed down the tubing behind the second plug and seats on the seat in the flow bore of the tool. The seated second plug isolates applied pressure from passing downhole end of the tool so the integrity of the tubing can be tested. The second plug is self-removable (e.g., dissolvable) in the tool to reestablish fluid communication through the flow bore of the tool.

A top latch-in plug includes a housing having a bore; and a transitionable seal, wherein: the transitionable seal seals the bore of the housing when in a first configuration, the transitionable seal unseals the bore when in a second configuration, and the transitionable seal is triggerable to transition from the first configuration to the second configuration. A casing floatation system includes a casing having a pre-load collar and a landing collar; and a lower bottom latch-in plug comprising: a catch mechanism compatible with the pre-load collar; and a landing mechanism compatible with the landing collar.

A method and apparatus for cementing a casing string in a wellbore includes installing an expandable port collar in the casing string; providing cement from the casing string through at least one aperture in a wall of the port collar to an annular area surrounding the port collar; and expanding the port collar to increase its inner diameter.

Methods and apparatus related to an expandable port collar

A method for casing a subsea wellbore includes running a tieback casing string into the subsea wellbore using a workstring including first, second, and third wiper plugs. The method further includes: launching a first release plug or tag into the workstring; pumping cement slurry into the workstring, thereby driving the first release plug or tag along the workstring; after pumping the cement slurry, launching a second release plug or tag into the workstring; and pumping chaser fluid into the workstring, thereby driving the release plugs or tags and cement slurry through the workstring. The release plugs or tags engage and release the respective wiper plugs from the workstring. The first wiper plug or release plug ruptures, thereby allowing the cement slurry to flow therethrough. The method further includes: stabbing the tieback casing string into a liner string; and retrieving the workstring, the workstring still including the third wiper plug.

A float shoe for a downhole tubular or casing includes a housing, a nose, a support, and a valve. The housing is attached to the casing, and the nose having a shell of a millable material (e.g., composite, aluminum, etc.) extends from the housing. A support of cement, fills an internal cavity of the nose's shell and support a valve in the housing. The shell for the nose defines a flow passage communicating with the valve and can have a conical or eccentric shape to facilitate passage of the float shoe in a borehole during run-in. The shell for the nose can also have a port or jet that communicate the flow passage out the side of the nose.

A casing floatation system includes a casing having a pre-load collar and a landing collar; and a lower bottom latch-in plug comprising: a catch mechanism compatible with the pre-load collar; and a landing mechanism compatible with the landing collar. A method of well completion includes floating a casing in a wellbore with a casing floatation system having a pre-load collar; sequentially engaging a lower bottom latch-in plug and a top latch-in plug having a transitionable seal; pressure testing the casing; and triggering the transitionable seal to unseal the bore of the top latch-in plug.

A method of using a liner assembly comprises inserting the liner assembly into a wellbore, the liner assembly having an annular packer and a port collar. The method further comprises closing fluid flow through a lower end of the liner assembly, actuating the annular packer into engagement with the wellbore, and actuating the port collar into an open position to open fluid communication between an interior of the liner assembly and the wellbore. The method further comprises pumping cement into the wellbore through the port collar at a location above the annular packer and actuating the port collar into a closed position to close fluid communication between the interior of the liner assembly and the wellbore.

Remotely operated stage cementing methods for liner drilling installations

A swivel configured to rotationally decouple an upper section of a work string from a lower section of the work string. The swivel includes an upper body coupled to a lower body by a ring member and a plurality of shearable members. The lower body has a plurality of teeth members that engage a plurality of teeth members of the ring member. Rotation of the upper body is transmitted to the lower body by the ring member. The upper body is rotatable relative to the lower body when the shearable members are sheared.
