A circuit board assembly includes a circuit board and an electrical connector having a connector housing holding contacts in a contact array. The connector housing has a mating end configured to be mated with a mating electrical connector in a mating direction. The electrical connector has cables terminated to the contacts and extending from a cable end. A connector mount is used to locate the electrical connector relative to the circuit board. A bracket is coupled to the mounting surface of the circuit board. A biasing member is coupled to the bracket and the mounting feature and is compressible along a compression axis parallel to the mating direction to allow the electrical connector to float in the mating direction relative to the circuit board.

Circuit board assembly for a communication system

A circuit board assembly includes an electrical connector mounted to a circuit board having a connector housing holding contacts in a contact array. A connector mount having a bracket is coupled to the mounting surface of the circuit board proximate to the mating edge. The electrical connector is movably coupled to the connector mount to move relative to the circuit board during mating with the mating electrical connector. The connector mount has a biasing member compressible along a compression axis parallel to the mating direction to allow the electrical connector to float in the mating direction relative to the circuit board. The electrical connector is movably coupled to the connector mount in a confined envelope in at least one floating direction perpendicular to the mating direction.

An electrical connector includes a connector housing having a mating end configured to be mated with a mating connector and a mounting end configured to be mounted to a circuit board. The connector housing includes a receptacle at the mating end receiving the mating connector. The electrical connector includes power contacts held by the connector housing extending between a mating end having a power-in contact interface configured to be coupled to the mating connector and a terminating end having a power-out circuit board interface configured to be coupled to the circuit board. Each power contact includes a power take-off between the mating end and the terminating end having a power-out cable plug interface configured to be electrically connected to a cable plug.

Power contact for electrical connector

A power connector includes first and second power terminals having first and second contact stacks and first and second plates for termination to corresponding power element. The contact stacks have contacts separate and discrete from each other and from the plate. Each contact has a base and a mating beam. The bases are aligned and mechanically and electrically coupled to the plate. A housing has an end wall and a fastener that mechanically and electrically couples the bases to the plate. The power terminals are arranged such that the first and second mating beams oppose each other across a mating slot that receives a bus bar with the first mating beams mechanically and electrically engaging a first bus rail at a first side of the bus bar and the second mating beams mechanically and electrically engaging a second bus rail at a second side of the bus bar.

A header assembly includes a header housing and contact modules coupled to the header housing each having a frame assembly with a signal leadframe and a dielectric frame. The dielectric frame includes mating portion extensions at a front of the dielectric frame. The signal leadframe includes mating portions extending forward from the mating portion extensions. Each contact module includes a ground shield having ground shrouds providing electrical shielding for the mating portions. Each ground shroud includes shroud walls forming a shroud cavity receiving the corresponding mating portion extension. Each ground shroud includes a shroud transition to vary a depth of the shroud cavity along a length of the ground shroud.

Contact module for a header assembly

A header assembly includes a header housing having a header cavity. The header assembly includes header signal contacts received in corresponding signal contact channels having mating ends arranged in the header cavity for mating with the receptacle assembly. The header assembly includes header ground contacts received in corresponding ground contact channels. Each header ground contact includes shield walls forming a shield cavity receiving header signal contacts to provide electrical shielding for the header signal contacts. The shield walls include an end wall extending between first and second side walls. Each header ground contact includes a mating protrusion that extends outward relative to the shield cavity from the corresponding shield wall. The mating protrusion is configured to engage a conductive insert of the receptacle assembly used to electrically common each of the header ground contacts.

Shielding structure for a connector assembly

Electrical connector includes a housing and a mating array having a plurality of signal contacts and a plurality of ground contacts that are coupled to the housing. The signal contacts and the ground contacts are positioned for mating with signal conductors and ground conductors, respectively, of a mating connector. The ground contacts are plated with a ground-material composition and the signal contacts are plated with a signal-material composition. The ground-material composition is configured to cause a first low-level contact resistance (LLCR) while mated with the ground conductors during operation. The signal-material composition is configured to cause a second LLCR while mated with the signal conductors during operation. The second LLCR is less than the first LLCR during operation.

Electrical connector and electrical connector assembly having a mating array of signal and ground contacts

A contact module includes a leadframe having signal contacts arranged in pairs. Each signal contact includes a lead having sides extending between inner and outer edges. The contact module includes a dielectric frame supporting the leadframe having a first side and a second side with windows extending through the dielectric frame between the first side and the second side. The windows exposing to air the sides, the inner edges and the outer edges of the corresponding leads along a majority of lengths of the leads. The contact module includes a shield structure having a first ground shield at the first side and a second ground shield at the second side to provide electrical shielding for the signal contacts.

Contact module for a connector assembly

An electrical connector includes a front housing having a front and a rear. The front housing is configured to hold signal contacts and has a cavity at the rear. The front is configured to be mated with the mating connector. A conductive insert is received in the cavity. The conductive insert includes end walls and cross walls extending between the end walls. The conductive insert includes channels between the cross walls configured to receive ground shields used to provide electrical shielding for the signal contacts. The cross walls are configured to be electrically coupled to the corresponding ground shields. The conductive insert is configured to electrically couple each of the ground shields.

Shielding structure for an electrical connector

An electrical connector includes a front housing having a front configured to be mated with a header connector and a rear having a cavity. The electrical connector includes a conductive insert received in the cavity including end walls and cross walls extending between the end walls. The conductive insert includes channels between the cross walls receiving header ground shields of the header connector. The cross-walls include protrusions extending into the channels each having a mating interface engaging the header ground shields. The conductive insert electrically couples each of the header ground shields of the header connector.

Electrical contact includes a base portion and a mating portion having a leading end of the electrical contact. The mating portion includes a contact finger coupled to the base portion and extends between the base portion and the leading end. The contact finger has an engagement surface that is shaped to define a primary contact zone. The electrical contact also includes a resonance-control protrusion shaped to define a stub-contact zone. The stub-contact zone is positioned at the base portion or between the base portion and the primary contact zone. The primary contact zone and the stub-contact zone are configured to engage another contact. The stub-contact zone is configured to impede electrical resonance along a stub portion of the other contact.

An electrical connector assembly includes a housing having a cavity receiving a stack of contact modules each having a dielectric holder having first and second sides extending between a front and a rear and extending between a top and a bottom. Each contact module includes signal contacts having mating portions and mounting portions extending from the bottom for termination to a circuit board. The dielectric holder includes a press tab extending from the first side proximate to the bottom having press surface pressed downward by a seating tool to press the electrical connector assembly on the circuit board proximate to the bottom of the dielectric holder to seat the mounting portions in vias in the circuit board.

A receptacle connector assembly includes a contact module having signal contacts and ground contacts and a housing having a front shell and a rear shell coupled to the front shell. The front shell and the rear shell receive the signal contacts and corresponding header signal contacts of a header connector assembly in mating engagement with the signal contacts in a mating zone. The front shell and the rear shell receive the ground contacts and corresponding header ground contacts of the header connector assembly in mating engagement with the ground contacts in the mating zone. The rear shell has pockets receiving corresponding signal contacts and ground contacts. The rear shell has conductors at the front of the rear shell providing electrical shielding in the mating zone.
