A breath alcohol device calibration system includes a computerized calibration module operable to calibrate a breath alcohol device, and an interface operable to couple the breath alcohol device to a remote server. The interface uses a connection employing a cryptographic function such that data stored on the breath alcohol device can be securely transferred from the breath alcohol device to the remote server using the calibration system. The interface is further operable to transfer data stored on the breath alcohol device from the breath alcohol device to the remote server directly without storing the data in nonvolatile storage on the calibration station.

Detection device transfer system

A breath alcohol device calibration system includes a computerized calibration module operable to calibrate a candidate breath alcohol device using a reference gas of known alcohol concentration, and a reference gas tank identification module operable to identify a reference gas tank that is coupled to the breath alcohol device calibration system. Identification is performed using at least one distinguishing characteristic of the coupled tank, the distinguishing characteristic providing reference gas tank information including at least the known alcohol concentration of gas in the reference gas tank. The reference gas tank identification module is further operable to read a temperature history of the tank from an electronic device coupled to the tank, and to indicate an error condition if the temperature history of the tank indicates temperatures below a first temperature threshold over the tank's recent temperature history to potentially result in incomplete mixing of the reference gas.

Reference gas management in a breath alcohol calibration station

Embodiments include breath intoxicant monitoring systems and methods of operating a breath intoxicant monitoring system. In an embodiment, a breath intoxicant monitoring system, includes a first detection element, a second detection element, and a control module. The first detection element can be operable to detect a level of an intoxicant in a user's breath and to provide a continuous signal indicating the level of intoxicant. The second detection element can be operable to detect a level of the intoxicant. The second detection element includes a different type of element than the first detection element. The second detection element can have greater accuracy than the first detection element. The control module to selectively operate the second detection element based on the signal received from the first detection element, and to indicate whether the level of intoxicant in the user's breath exceeds a threshold. Dual sensor types in intoxicant detection

A vehicle immobilization system includes a detection element operable to detect a level of an intoxicant in a user's breath. A control module is operable to receive a signal from the detection element indicating the level of intoxicant in the user's breath, and to selectively restrict operation of a vehicle based on the level of intoxicant in the user's breath exceeding a threshold. A wireless relay is operable to replace a standard relay in the vehicle, and to wirelessly communicate with the control module such that the control module is operable to control the wireless relay to selectively restrict operation of the vehicle.
