A sleeve that connects together a first duct and a second duct. The sleeve has a body with a cylindrical shape with open first and second ends. A first groove is spaced inward along the longitudinal axis from the first end and is configured to receive an end of the first duct. A first sleeve section of the body extends along the longitudinal axis between the first end and the first groove. A second groove is spaced inward along the longitudinal axis from the second end and is configured to receive an end of the second duct. A second sleeve section of the body extends along the longitudinal axis between the second end and the second groove. A central section is positioned between and spacing apart along the longitudinal axis the first groove and the second groove.

Methods and apparatus to direct ventilation of vehicle occupants

An aircraft including a fuselage having a side wall at least partially defining a passenger cabin and a crown section of the aircraft. The passenger cabin includes an overhead zone, a passenger zone, and a floor zone. An air supply duct is positioned within the crown section, and the air supply duct is configured to pressurize the crown section with air. At least one return air outlet is defined in the floor zone. An interior structure is coupled to the side wall and extends between the passenger cabin and the crown section. The interior structure includes a plurality of nozzles oriented to discharge the pressurized air from the crown section along an airflow path that extends downward through the overhead zone, downward through the passenger zone, and then towards the at least one return air outlet.

Described herein are noise attenuating ducts and vehicles using these ducts for environmental control systems. A duct comprises an exoskeleton structure and a sound-absorbing structure, disposed within and conforming to the exoskeleton structure. The exoskeleton structure provides external mechanical support to the sound-absorbing structure thereby helping to maintain the tubular shape of the sound-absorbing structure. This external support does not interfere with the airflow inside the sound-absorbing structure. Furthermore, the external positioning of the exoskeleton structure allows the integration of various support mounting features for the installation of the duct in a vehicle. In some examples, the exoskeleton structure comprises a plurality of enclosed openings to reduce the weight of the exoskeleton structure and provide additional flexibility. Furthermore, additive manufacturing of the exoskeleton structure allows achieving a monolithic structure with various features and characteristics described above.

A system includes an outflow vent that has a cap releasably mounted to a panel within an internal cabin of a vehicle. The cap is elongated from a first end of the cap to a second end of the cap opposite the first end. The cap has a base wall that is overlaid on the panel and defines at least one slot therethrough. The cap receives an airflow generated by an airflow generator, and the at least one slot emits the airflow from the cap to form an air curtain within the internal cabin.

A groove in an interior surface of the side wall is configured to receive a bead around an end of a duct tube inserted through the conical section and into the hollow interior of the side wall. A plurality of pull tabs extend outwardly from the conical section and are configured to be manually pulled, pulling the cap over the end of the duct tube.

A fluid flow restrictor device for controlling fluid flow at a connection between ducts may include a restrictor device body that is partially or fully inserted into and disposed within one of the ducts and an outboard restrictor device flange extending radially outward at an outboard end of the restrictor device body and having an outboard flange outer diameter that is greater than an inner diameter of the ducts so that the restrictor device body or the outboard restrictor device flange is engaged by an open end surface of the duct to prevent full insertion of the fluid flow restrictor device into the duct. A body inner surface defines a restrictor opening through the restrictor device body that can be varied to achieve desired fluid flow characteristics at the connection.

A composite duct with reinforcement comprises an inner ply, an outer ply, and a plurality of cellular core rings. The inner ply forms a channel with a circular cross-section. The plurality of cellular core rings is positioned at set intervals along a length of the composite duct and between the inner ply and the outer ply.

According to an embodiment, an aircraft comprises a fuselage including composite skin; an enclosure located inside the fuselage; a rechargeable battery disposed inside the enclosure; and a ventilation conduit extending from the enclosure to an opening in the composite skin, the ventilation conduit including: a first portion having a first end coupled to the enclosure and a second end spaced from the composite skin, and a second portion extending between the composite skin and the second end of the first portion, the second portion comprising an electrically non-conductive material.
