A method for operating a termination device of an access communication network includes (a) performing, at the termination device, a first start-up procedure, (b) after performing the first start-up procedure, detecting, at the termination device, presence of a communication signal meeting one or more predetermined criteria, and (c) in response to detecting presence of the communication signal meeting the one or more predetermined criteria, performing, at the termination device, a second start-up procedure that is different from the first start-up procedure.

A method for transmitting a digital frame by an optical network unit in a digital communications network includes steps of arranging received data into a series of symbols, installing a primary cyclic prefix immediately preceding the series of symbols in time, and inserting individual ones of a plurality of secondary cyclic prefixes between each adjacent pair of symbols in the series of symbols. A length of each secondary cyclic prefix corresponds to a first duration shorter than an amount of time needed to turn on a laser of the optical network unit. The method further includes a step of providing to the optical network unit the digital frame. The digital frame includes the primary cyclic prefix, the plurality of secondary cyclic prefixes, and the series of symbols. The method further includes a step of modulating the provided digital frame by a laser of the optical network unit.

A method for providing video to a customer premises equipment, the method includes: receiving, by a radio frequency interface of a cable modem, radio frequency signals; receiving by a data tuner out of multiple tuners of the cable modem, radio frequency signals that convey data; detecting, by a monitor of the cable modem, a request to receive a certain video channel that is being broadcasted; wherein the request is sent to the cable modem from a customer premises equipment; tuning a certain tuner out of multiple tuners of the cable modem, in response to a mapping between radio frequencies and video channels, to receive the certain video channel; filtering out data layer encapsulation information that encapsulates certain video channel information; and transmitting certain video channel information to the customer premises equipment.

Method, cable modem and a device for providing video to a customer premises equipment

A stringed musical instrument has a head assembly, a tail, and an elongate neck extending from the head assembly to the tail. The neck defines a fingerboard having a surface layer and a substrate. The surface layer includes an exposed surface formed of sheet metal deformed to unitarily define a plurality of frets thereon. A plurality of strings extends from the head assembly along the neck and adjacent to the fingerboard. In another variation, the surface layer has an exposed surface unitarily defining frets thereon. Each fret forms a peak, and the surface layer defines a plurality of troughs separated by the peaks. Each trough has a single arcuate shape extending between each peak. A method of forming the stringed musical instrument is also disclosed.

Unitary fingerboard and method of making same

A stringed instrument and a method of forming the stringed instrument are provided. The instrument includes a head assembly having individually and continuously adjustable nuts for varying the height each string. The head assembly also provides simple and reliable tensioning of the strings. The method of forming the instrument includes in-molded frets to ensure their planarity and alignment.
