A system for providing expanded emergency communication in a telecommunication network including an array of switches, junctions, channels, customer-operated communication devices and service providing stations. The network is connected to facilitate communication among stations using a plurality of milieux. Communication is effected among a service providing station, an emergency complex, an emergency answering position, and an expanded service subscriber. The system comprises: (a) a request acquisition subsystem for receiving emergency requests from a requesting caller; (b) an information store for storing information relating to selected callers; (c) a notification facility for notifying selected subscribers; and (d) a dispatch facility for receiving selected of the information relating to an extant emergency. The system effects transfer of information from the information store to the dispatch facility based upon emergency request information relating to the extant emergency. The system notifies subscribers based upon the emergency request relating to the extant emergency. The method comprises the steps of: (a) providing a request acquisition subsystem for receiving emergency requests from a caller; (b) providing an information store for storing information relating to selected callers; (c) providing a notification facility for notifying selected subscribers; (d) providing a dispatch facility for receiving information relating to affected callers; the affected callers being associated with an extant emergency; and (e) effecting transfer of information from the information store to the dispatch facility based upon emergency request information relating to the extant emergency.

System for providing expanded emergency service communication in a telecommunication network

A system for handling special number calls in a telecommunication network. The network includes an array of switches, junctions, communication channels, customer-operated communication devices and telecommunication service providing stations connected to facilitate communication among a plurality of stations using a plurality of communication milieux. The system comprises: (a) at least one special number call processing center connected with the network; (b) at least one special number answering station connected with the special number call processing center; and (c) at least one special number action station connected with the special number answering station. The special number action station is configured for selective connection with a plurality of action agencies. Selected of the telecommunication service providing stations are connected with at least one of the at least one special number processing center. The method of the present invention comprises the steps of: (a) routing the special number call via the network to at least one special number call processing center connected with the network; (b) evaluating geographic information indicating locus of the caller received with the call to ascertain at least one special number call answering station geographically proximate with, or otherwise appropriate for, the caller locus; (c) routing the call to at least one special number answering station; (d) evaluating service required by the caller; (e) selecting at least one special number action agency appropriate for providing the service required; and (f) alerting the selected special number action agency regarding the service required.

Telecommunication system and method for handling special number calls having geographic sensitivity

A line-based 911 system and method that completes an emergency call from a telephone to a PSAP comprising a multiplicity of operator stations connected by individual lines to a telephone switching system. An emergency call is routed to the termination ports of the switching system associated with a PSAP. Each of the termination ports is connected to one of the multiplicity of operator stations via its associated line, thereby establishing a path from the telephone to the operator station, the CPN of the calling telephone is delivered to the selected operator station and the operator station obtains location information of the telephone in accordance with the CPN, which is then displayed.
