A palm PC dockable phone, comprising a personal computer running a software application for implementing telephony functions, a personal digital assistant (PDA) device providing a user display and input interface, and a telephone set connected to the personal computer and in communication with the PDA device, wherein the telephone set incorporates phone firmware for communicating with the software application and PDA firmware for communicating with the PDA device for controlling the telephony functions via the user display and input interface.

A system and method for accessing a party with a telephone over a LAN with user verification and dialing achieved by making use of handwriting analysis. A server incorporating phone agents and user agents is linked to software for analyzing the handwriting from a touch sensitive pad. The system and method prevents unauthorized access to a dialed party and ensures user validity.

Telephone with handwriting recognition

A powering arrangement for providing power to an Ethernet connected device, comprising a power unit connected via a first terminal to the device and via a second terminal to an Ethernet cable carrying two signal wire pairs and two spare wire pairs. A connection is provided within the power unit for interconnecting the signal wire pairs and a first one of the two spare wire pairs to the device, and a source of power is provided within the power unit connected to a second one of the spare wire pairs from the device for providing power thereto.

Power supply for ethernet LAN connected telephone

A trunk circuit is disclosed for coupling a bidirectional lead pair, such as balanced tip and ring leads, to a pair of unidirectional leads such as unbalanced input and output leads. The trunk circuit incorporates a small inexpensive transformer for effecting this coupling and for providing large common mode signal isolation and correct longitudinal balance. Circuitry is provided for matching the nominal balanced AC and DC line impedances. The trunk circuit also provides circuitry for generating dial pulse signals under control of a microprocessor or other external controller.

Solid state trunk circuit

A circuit for detecting a first plurality of status signals on a multiplicity of telephone lines and generating a second lesser plurality of control signals, less than the first plurality, in response thereto. Predetermined ones of the control signals are transmitted via a multiplexing circuit to a comparator circuit. A digital-to-analog converter generates analog threshold voltages for application to the comparator circuit in response to receiving command signals from a microprocessor. The comparator circuit generates a third lesser plurality of output signals, less than the second plurality, indicative of the status of a multiplicity of remote trunk circuits connected to the telephone lines. The circuit is inexpensive and occupies little circuit board area.
