A weatherseal assembly and associated method of forming same includes a generally U-shaped body including a base and first and second legs extending outwardly therefrom to form a glassrun cavity dimensioned to receive an associated window edge therein. First and second seal lips extend from the first and second legs, respectively, for engagement with opposed, first and second surfaces of the associated window. A first material is a stiffer, more rigid material than a second material that forms at least a portion of the second leg and the seal lips, such that at least a first portion of the first material forms the first leg extending outwardly from the base such that the first leg has a reduced thickness to provide a flush assembly of the weatherseal assembly, associated window and associated vehicle component.

An automotive pillar reinforcement system having a skeleton member designed to be secured to a vehicle pillar, such as an automotive &ldquo;B&rdquo; pillar. An expandable material, such as an epoxy-based reinforcing material, is disposed on the skeleton member. In one application, the system is utilized to reinforce structural portions of an automotive vehicle, such as a &ldquo;B&rdquo; pillar found in a vehicle, wherein the material expands and cures during an automobile assembly operation, bonding the reinforcement system to the pillar structure and the vehicle panels.

A window seal assembly for attachment to a vehicle door around the door's window opening is provided. The window seal assembly includes a glass run channel and an inner flock seal both formed from extruded rubber or plastic and including metallic reinforcements. The glass run channel portion is attached to the frame along the pillars via a plurality of fasteners and the inner flock seal fits over a flange extending from the frame. Both the glass run channel and the inner flock seal include lips extending relatively toward the other to form a window pane receiving channel.

Window sealing assembly

The present invention is a weather seal adapted to be secured on a flange of a vehicle to seal a gap between the flange and a panel member. The weather seal includes retaining members for retaining the weather seal on the flange and a separate trim lip for sealing the gap between the flange and panel member. The weather seal also includes an attachment portion receiving one end of the trim lip to removably secure the trim lip to the weather seal and allow accurate positioning of the trim lip to seal the gap when the weather seal is secured to the flange.

A belt weatherstrip which is adapted for engagement over an end flange of a vehicle. The belt weatherstrip includes a one-piece core member which has a backing leg, an intermediate leg and a show surface leg which generally form a U-shaped member having a width which fits over the end flange of a vehicle. An elastomeric coating is extruded onto portions of the core member for providing at least one sealing lip extending from the core member. A plurality of perforations formed in the intermediate leg allow expansion in the width of the perforated leg such that the width of the weatherstrip may be varied along the length of the weatherstrip during forming of the weatherstrip. In accordance with the method steps of the present invention a weatherstrip core blank is first provided and thereafter a plurality of perforations are formed in the blank along a longitudinal portion of the blank. A core shape is formed from the blank by stretch bending the blank along the central longitudinal portion having the plurality of perforations for varying the cross-sectional dimension at the plurality of perforations thereby facilitating formation of a weatherstrip having a varying width and cross-section dimension.

The article fills a gap between the surfaces by expanding the expandable portion and compressing the contractible portion.
