An industrial IDE supports development of control programming using an industrial domain-specific language (DSL) that allows control programming to be written using a scripted programming language having features catered to the industrial domain. The industrial DSL can simplify and streamline development of industrial control code relative to using conventional graphics-based control programming formats such as ladder logic, since a script-based industrial DSL can be used to write programming code using fewer mouse clicks relative to traditional control programming environments. Editing tools inherent to the industrial DSL can provide dynamic programming feedback that guides the developer through the process of developing control code. A development interface of the industrial IDE can comprises two editing windows that render the control program in a graphical format and in a text-based format simultaneously, allowing the user to edit the program in either format on the same interface.

An industrial integrated development environment (IDE) allows project topologies to be defined using an industrial domain-specific language (DSL) script. DSL scripting language can be used to define a control system topology in terms of the devices that make up the control system as well as the data connections between those devices. The IDE system can translate resulting topology to a project tree that serves as the basis for a control system project.

An industrial integrated development environment (IDE) comprises a development interface that affords a user a great deal of control over the editing tools, workspace canvases, and project information rendered at a given time. Collaboration tools supported by the IDE system facilitate communicative and coordinated editing of control programs by multiple developers, and the IDE system conveys the resulting online and offline states of these programs using intuitive graphical indicators.

An alarm configuration system simplifies alarm management in industrial control systems by improving scalability and capacity of alarms. A control system device allows alarms to be configured by associating the alarm conditions with controller tags or other components of a control system. Properties of these alarm conditions can be referenced by external systems as well as programmatically as extensions of the associated controller tag or component. The alarm conditions are evaluated independently of the control program executed by the control device. A development system allows association of reusable user-defined alarm conditions with selected data types, such that the alarm conditions are automatically applied to controller tags of the selected data type. Selected alarm conditions can also be grouped into alarm sets, allowing operations to be performed collectively on the set of alarms. The system can also generate collective alarm statistics for the alarm conditions included in an alarm set.

Method to configure control system alarms by associating alarms to tags

A method and apparatus for tracking changes in an industrial controller is disclosed. A project for the industrial controller is developed that includes multiple components. Each of the components may be arranged at varying levels. Authorized personnel are able to access the components, or a portion thereof, within the industrial controller to change settings and or programming of the industrial controller. As each change is made, the industrial controller maintains a log of the changes. The change may initially be recorded in each module and/or at each level of the project. The change is then rolled up to a top level of the project. A revision log at the top level of the project stores each of the changes within the industrial controller. The industrial controller may then access the revision log to determine whether any action needs to be taken within the industrial controller.

Method and apparatus to track changes in an industrial controller

An industrial control system includes an industrial controller and a programming interface. The programming interface is operable to communicate a plurality of operations for modifying a control program maintained by the industrial controller followed by a commit transaction command. The industrial controller is configured to designate the plurality of operations with a pending status and preprocess the plurality of operations. The industrial controller is further configured to commit the operations and clear the pending status responsive to receiving the commit transaction command.
