A rowing exercise machine includes a resistance mechanism having a first coupling between first and second spaced disks and resiliently deformable and tensionable in a spiral therebetween to resist rotation, and a second coupling between one of the disks and a user handle to resist movement of the handle and concordant movement of the user on a seat along a track.

An apparatus for measuring heart rate is provided which comprises a sensor for generating a signal which includes the biopotential signal produced by a heart. This signal is filtered, amplified and digitized. A microcomputer autocorrelates the digitized signal. A plurality of signal indication routines then scan the autocorrelated output for the presence of periodic signals. Each of the signal indication routines uses different search criteria, such as peak and waveform detection, and generates a candidate heart rate. An arbitrator then selects one of the candidate heart rates according to predetermined criteria. These criteria include the value of previously selected heart rates.

Apparatus and method for measuring heart rate

An electronic readout assembly in which the readout unit is captured in a frame which is secured in upright display position on a circuit board which in turn is slideably seated in a bracket adapted for utilization mounting, the readout being of the flat plate type having an array of contact prongs projecting from a bottom edge thereof, and the frame having a bottom opening through which the prongs engage with circuit connections on the circuit board. The frame also has open portions which expose the prongs to convenient access for test purposes in a region between the frame and circuit board.
