In an imaging evaluation method, camera, and system, a scene is imaged with a camera. User inputs to the camera are received concurrent with the imaging. The inputs each define a setting of one of a plurality of operational functions of the camera. The inputs are valued to provide a set of input values. An image value index is calculated using the input values.

An accessory is provided for use with an image capture device is provided. The accessory has a trigger button and an image capture system adapted to capture an image in response to actuation of the trigger button. The accessory also has a body adapted to be detachably connectable to the image capture device with the body including, a holding unit for receiving a removable metadata source having metadata stored therein; a communication interface for communicating with the removable metadata source; and a trigger sensor for generating a trigger signal when the trigger button of said image capture device is depressed. The communication interface obtains metadata from the removable metadata source in response to the trigger signal and stores the metadata in a metadata memory so that the metadata is associated with the captured image.

Scanner modules are provided for use with a docking station having a docking station interface adapted to receive an interface of an imaging device; the scanner module has an image-scanning unit adapted to form an image of a medium; a controller to controllably cause the image scanning unit to capture an image of the medium and to store the captured image as image data in a memory; and a scanner interface adapted so that it can be received by the docking station interface. The controller is connected to the scanner interface and adapted to send image data from the memory through the docking station interface in a manner that emulates the manner in which the imaging device sends image data through the docking station interface. Some embodiments of the scanner module can be manually or automatically moved to scan mediums.

The main level display, which is linked to other level displays has in the preferred embodiment, a hierarchical picture grouping iconic region () with directories and files containing pictures in the database, a main display area () for displaying pictures, thumbnails and graphical browsers, a picture content iconic region () according to predefined content categories and picture metadata, and a graphical browser region () having indicia of the graphical browsers utilized by the GUI. In addition to the main level (), the present-inventive GUI also has a number of display levels linked to the main display level () via one or more icons (and) in the main display level.

Comprehensive, multi-dimensional graphical user interface using picture metadata for navigating and retrieving pictures in a picture database

A novel graphical user interface (GUI) using metadata, generates three-dimensional scatter plots () for the efficient and aesthetic navigation and retrieval of pictures in a picture database. The first and second dimensions () represent abscissas and ordinates corresponding to two picture characteristics chosen by the user. Distinguishing characteristics of icons () in the scatter plot (), which icons represent groups of pictures, indicate the third dimension, also chosen by the user. In the preferred embodiment, the third dimension is indicated by the color of the icon (). Along with many other possibilities, the three dimensions of a scatter plot () can represent combinations of 'Who,' 'What,' &#x201c;When,&#x201d; &#x201c;Where,&#x201d; and &#x201c;Why&#x201d; picture characteristic information contained in the picture metadata. Activating an icon () produces a thumbnail of the pictures in the group represented by the particular icon (). Updating one display dimension dynamically updates the other display dimensions.

Graphical user interface utilizing three-dimensional scatter plots for visual navigation of pictures in a picture database

In contrast to prior art picture database browsing and retrieving methods which require the tedious opening and perusing of directories, folders and files, the present-inventive graphical user interface system () and method produces several display levels () of user-friendly geographical/map metaphors from picture metadata with picture icons () representing pictures captured at locations on maps. The characteristics of the display levels () are programmable by the user. In the preferred embodiment, the size of the picture icons () is proportional to the number of pictures captured at the icon location. Further features of the present-inventive graphical user interface (GUI) include a 'tool tip' which appears indicating the number of pictures represented by a picture icon (), when the screen cursor is placed over the picture icon (). In an example according to the present-inventive GUI, the first display level () includes a world map metaphor () with picture icons () located at the global capture locations of the pictures in the picture database. Each additional display level () provides greater geographic specificity of the picture capture locations. Such additional display levels include continent or country of capture (), state or territory of capture (), and city or town of capture (), etc., with the last display level including thumbnail representations () of the pictures captured at the specified capture locations.

Picture database graphical user interface utilizing map-based metaphors for efficient browsing and retrieving of pictures

An electrophotographic copier/printer reproduction apparatus includes a marking engine that has a job image buffer (JIB) that queues jobs from a scanner and a raster image processor (RIP). The scanner supports the copier function of the apparatus and processes original documents by scanning the images thereon to form copier image data that is processed and stored in the JIB. The RIP processes printer data from a computer and transmits this data also to the JIB for further processing and storage. The RIP operates in two printer modes. In a first printer mode, data is sent to the JIB as it is RIPed and no provision is made for an interrupt for a copier job nor can a copy job be scanned in. This provides maximum efficiency for printer operation. In a second, less efficient, printer mode the JIB stores only a few and preferably one-print job at a time to leave room in the JIB for scanning in a copy job via an interrupt operation. A criterion for switching between the two printer modes is time of day, print job backlog or coding of a print job.

Copier/printer with improved productivity

An improved summarization system for reproduction apparatus of the kind having a plurality of operating features for producing copy jobs. The apparatus includes an operator control communication interface, a display device for producing feature selection screens and signals indicative of selected features and a memory and control for addressing screens to the display device and controlling the apparatus to produce copies. The summarization system is operatively associated with the memory and control for generating and addressing onto the display device, separate screens summarizing, respectively, selected standard operating features, selected job level operating features, and selected page level operating features, without display of non-selected operating features.

System and method for job set up summarizing in reprographic apparatus

A document production apparatus includes a plurality of operator-selectable features, at least two of which mutually conflict and differ in level of assigned priority. A lower priority feature is automatically deselected when a conflicting higher priority feature is selected. The lower priority feature is automatically restored upon subsequent deselection of the higher priority feature. The restoration system either effects restoration of the lower priority feature or leaves the lower priority feature deselected based on a history of operator interactions between selecting and deselecting said higher priority feature. The lower priority feature may have a plurality of option configurations, and the lower priority feature is restored with the same option configuration as existed before the conflicting higher priority feature was selected.

A reproduction apparatus for producing copy, such as copier/duplicator includes an operator control panel that has a display screen for indicating certain standard selectable features for a copying operation including copy format, paper supply source, copy quality, magnification and exit location with plural displayable options for each feature. Buttons are provided for altering the display on the screen to indicate a displayed selected option for each. Improved operator interaction for casual walk-up users is provided by displaying on the display screen, prior to operator selection of a displayed option, the default settings for each of the standard selectable features without simultaneous display on the screen of any additional option associated with each standard selectable feature.
