Methods and devices are provided for repairing a tear in a meniscus. A pair of fixation member each entailing a preformed knot configuration coupled together by a suture length. The fixation members are placed on the meniscal tissue with the suture length spanning the tear, the knot configurations are expanded to form anchoring knots and the suture length is shortened to close the tear.

Methods and devices for repairing meniscal tissue

Methods and devices are provided for anchoring suture to tissue, incorporating anchoring devices constructed substantially from suture. The anchoring devices are constructed as longitudinally extended, preformed knot configurations that upon deployment are reconfigured to form anchoring knots having an increased cross-section relative to the preformed knot configuration, for secure lodging in tissue. The anchoring devices are suitable for single and multi-anchor surgical procedures in soft tissue or bone, and multiple anchors can be delivered using a single delivery device.

Methods and devices for repairing and anchoring damaged tissue

Compositions and methods are provided for tissue constructs that promote wound healing. The composition comprises a dimensionally stable fibrin construct for local administration to a wound site or region. In one embodiment, the fibrin construct is a wound healing composition, including components that promote wound healing, such as platelets, growth factors, white blood cells and fibrin clots. In another embodiment, the tissue treatment composition includes (i) aggregated fibrin, (ii) blood cells, and (iii) optionally, growth factors and/or other proteins.

Compositions and methods for platelet enriched fibrin constructs

A method provides for procuring platelet rich plasma (PRP) from a sample of whole blood in a vial. The method includes the steps of: separating the whole blood into layers through centrifugation with an upper layer containing platelet poor plasma (PPP) and a PRP layer below the upper layer containing PRP; adjusting an end point of a first range of motion of an extractor relative to a position of the PRP layer; moving the extractor through the first range of motion through the vial, PPP passing out from the upper layer through the extractor; and after the extractor reaches the end point of the first range of motion, extracting the PRP through the extractor and collecting the PRP.

Methods and devices for collecting separate components of whole blood

Methods and devices are provided for placing surgical guide pins, reamers, and ligament grafts into bone. In one exemplary embodiment, the method can include advancing a guide pin that includes a proximal rigid portion and a flexible distal portion. The rigid proximal portion can be advanced into a femoral tunnel such that the flexible distal portion extends across an intra-articular space. The flexible portion of the guide pin can be bent to adjust a distance between the guide pin and articular cartilage. A cannulated reamer can be advanced over the flexible portion of the guide pin and the reamer can be manipulated to avoid contact with the articular cartilage in the intra-articular space. A ligament graft can be secured in the femoral tunnel created by the guide pin and the reamer.

Methods and devices for surgical guide pin placement

Devices and methods are provided for positioning and forming bone tunnels. In one embodiment, a surgical drill guide apparatus is provided. The apparatus can include a first guide member having a longitudinal passageway extending therethrough for aiming a first guide pin along a first path to form a first bone tunnel. The apparatus can also include a second guide member having a longitudinal passageway extending therethrough for aiming a second guide pin along a second path to form a second bone tunnel. The first and second guide members can extend at an angle relative to one another and they can be offset such that axes of the guide members do not intersect.

Methods and devices for ligament repair

A modular sensor system is disclosed. The system can include one or more sensors, a mounting unit, and a control unit. The mounting unit can enable the control unit and/or one or more sensors to be securely, but detachably, mounted to a patient's body. The control unit can include electronics and other components configured to interface with, monitor, and record data from the one or more sensors. The control unit can further include a wired bus, transceiver, antenna, or other suitable components to enable wireless communication between the system and a central control or monitor. Some or all of the components included in the control unit can be removable from the system to enable some or all of the electronics of the system to be removed.

Telemetric docking station

A system and method for draining at least one type of bodily fluid from a patient, including a chamber capable of being adjusted to hold one of at least a first volume of fluid and a second, smaller volume of fluid. The chamber has an inlet end with a barrier defining an opening and has an outlet end defining an outlet passage. The system further includes a valve with a valve seat and a valve closure member to define a usable volume within the chamber, and a movable adjustment member with a shaft passable through the opening in the barrier and terminating within the chamber at a first end. The first end of the shaft is connected to the valve seat, and the shaft has a plurality of features along its length engagable with corresponding engagement features in a fixed relationship with the barrier to enable the shaft to be advanced into the chamber to reduce the usable volume to be less than the first volume.

External volume-limiting CSF drainage system

A device and method for monitoring a patient having a sensing device taking sensor data continuously and a transmitter located on the patient and internally powered. The transmitter is normally in a power-down state and powered-up for transmitting the sensor data. A receiver is located remote from the patient and receives the sensor data transmitted wirelessly from the transmitter. The transmission is typically a burst and can also be initiated on a command. For the burst, the sensor data is accumulated over a first period. The transmitter can transmit the sensor data over a second period of time. The second period of time is shorter than the first period of time. Once the transmission is complete, transmitter can be powered down. A further step displays the sensor data at the receiver in pseudo real-time. The display is shifted by a sum of the first and the second period of time.
