Disclosed is a polymeric composition that can include at least 95 wt. % of a polypropylene copolymer, and 50 ppm to 2000 ppm of an aryl amide containing clarifying agent, a phosphate ester salt containing clarifying agent, or a combination thereof. The polymeric composition can have a haze value of A after being extruded once and a haze value of B after being extruded 2 times, wherein the ratio of A to B is 1 to 1.35, wherein A is less than 25%, and wherein A and B are determined in accordance with ASTM D1003, at a thickness of about 40 mil.

Clear polypropylene composition for thermoforming

Disclosed is a polymeric composition containing at least 95 wt. % of a polypropylene copolymer; and 50 ppm to 2000 ppm of an aryl amide containing clarifying agent or a phosphate ester salt containing clarifying agent or a combination thereof, wherein the polymeric composition has a haze value of A after being extruded once and a haze value of B after being extruded 5 times, wherein the ratio of A to B is 1 to 1.35 and A is less than 25%, and wherein A and B are determined in accordance with ASTM D1003, at a thickness of about 40 mil, methods of making the polymeric composition and articles containing the polymeric composition.

A thermoplastic polyolefin composition and methods for its use is disclosed. The composition can include a thermoplastic polyolefin and a clarifying agent blend comprising a trisamide clarifier and sorbitol clarifier at a ratio of trisamide clarifier to sorbitol clarifier of 1:2 to 1:40 w/w.

Clarifier blends for optimum performance

Molded articles are prepared from propylene-ethylene copolymers and exhibiting improved clarity and strength properties. Articles prepared include bottles and other thin-walled articles. The articles are prepared using an isotactic propylene-ethylene random copolymer resin having an ethylene content of from about 0.5 to about 3 percent by total weight of copolymer, with a xylene solubles content of less than about 1.5 percent. The injection molded article may exhibit less than about 20 percent haze, as determined by ASTM D1003, at a thickness of about 0.08 inch (2.03 mm). Articles may also be prepared from similar copolymers having an ethylene content greater than about 3 percent by total weight of copolymer, with a xylene solubles content of less than about 4 percent by total weight of copolymer. These articles may exhibit less than about 13 percent haze, as determined by ASTM D1003, at a thickness of about 0.08 inch (2.03 mm).

Articles having improved clarity, prepared from propylene-ethylene copolymers

A polymer composition may include polyolefin having a molecular weight distribution of greater than or equal to 8 as measured by GPC and a metallic acrylate salt. The polymer composition may be characterized by one or more of: a melt flow rate of from 0.1 g/10 min to 10 g/10 min; a melt flow viscosity between 2,000 Pa&#xb7;s and 6,000 Pa&#xb7;s; a die swell of between 2 and 8; and a die swell characteristic time of between 0.3 seconds and 1.2 seconds. The polymer composition may be in the form of foam. A process of forming foam may include supplying polymer composition including metallic acrylate salt and polyolefin resin, and mixing the polymer composition with foaming agent. A foam may include a polymer composition that includes polyolefin and polar polymer and does not include an ionomer. The foam may have a foam density of less than 0.25 g/cc.

Polymer foams

A polymeric composition comprising a polymer and a nucleation agent, and having isotropic shrinkage of less than about 20% and a differential shrinkage of less than about 20%.

Polymer compositions for reduced shrinkage

A polypropylene composition comprises an isotactic polypropylene homopolymer resin that is suitable to form an injected molded article exhibiting less than about 60% haze, as determined by ASTM D1003, at a thickness of 0.05 inch without clarity-enhancing agents. The polypropylene composition has particular application to injection molded articles and may have a melt flow rate of from about 0.1 g/10 min to about 150 g/10 min as determined by ASTM D-1238, Procedure B. The resin may be prepared using a metallocene catalyst, and the composition may include clarity-enhancing agents for even greater clarity improvements.

Polypropylene having improved clarity and articles prepared therefrom

The present invention provides a catalyst for the polymerization of olefin that exhibits improved selectivity and broader molecular weight distribution in the polymer product. The catalyst is a conventional supported Ziegler-Natta catalyst in combination with a mixture of at least two electron donors, both having the general formula SiR.sub.m (OR').sub.4-m where R is selected from the group consisting of an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an aryl group and a vinyl group; R' is an alkyl group; and m is 0-3, wherein when R is an alkyl group, R may be identical with R'; when m is 0, 1 or 2, the R' groups may be identical or different; and when m is 1, 2 or 3, the R groups may be identical or different. This catalyst produces polypropylene having xylene solubles of 1-7 to 5.1 wt % and a molecular weight distribution of about 10.

Catalyst systems for improved stereoselectivity and broader molecular

The present invention provides a catalyst system and a process for the polymerization of olefin that exhibits improved selectivity and broader molecular weight distribution in the polymer product. The catalyst system includes a conventional supported Ziegler-Natta catalyst in combination with a mixture of at least two electron donors, both having the general formula SiR.sub.m (OR').sub.4-m where R is selected from the group consisting of an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an aryl group and a vinyl group; R' is an alkyl group; and m is 0-3, wherein when R is an alkyl group, R may be identical with R'; when m is 0, 1 or 2, the R' groups may be identical or different; and when m is 1, 2 or 3, the R groups may be identical or different. Preferably, one electron donor is described by the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.4 are both an alkyl or cycloalkyl group containing a secondary or tertiary carbon atom attached to the silicon atom, R.sub.1 and R.sub.4 being the same;; R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are alkyl or aryl groups, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 being the same or different; and the other electron is described by the formula: ##STR2## wherein R'.sub.1 is an alkyl or cycloalkyl group containing at least one primary, secondary or tertiary carbon atom attached to the silicon atom, R'.sub.2 and R'.sub.3 are an alkyl or aryl group, R'.sub.2 and R'.sub.3 being the same or different; and R'.sub.4 is an alkyl group with a primary carbon attached to the silicon atom, R'.sub.1 and R'.sub.4 being the same or different. This catalyst system produces polypropylene having xylene solubles of 1-7 to 5.1 wt % and a molecular weight distribution of about 10.
