One or more connectors at one end of a wire bundle are passed through a polarized through-opening in a wall. The wire bundle is advanced to place a grommet having a substantially right angle curved bend, through and along which the wire bundle curves, immediately proximate the polarized through-opening on one side of the wall. One end of the grommet is inserted into and through the through-opening, and the grommet is advanced to pass its curved bend through the through-opening until the curved bend is disposed on the other side of the wall. Then a polarized groove in the grommet is seated in the polarized through-opening to locate a direction in which the portion of the wire bundle exiting the one end of the grommet extends from the grommet's curved bend.

Installing vehicle wiring harness

A truck has an occupant compartment (), an engine compartment () forward of the occupant compartment, and a wiring harness () extending through a dash panel () separating the two compartments from each other. A grommet () is secured at a fixed location on a wire bundle () that passes through the grommet. The dash has a through-opening in which the grommet seats, and the engine compartment side of the grommet includes a bend () that curves generally downward and away from the dash to direct the bundle generally downward on the engine compartment side.

A wiring harness grommet () composed of first and second grommet halves () cooperatively forming a walled through-passage () for a wire bundle of a wiring harness. Respective walled cavity halves () are telescopically fit together for capturing the wire bundle between respective mutually confronting throats in the cavity halves. An annular void circumferentially surrounds the bundle and is filled with a filler (S) after the two halves have been fit together onto the bundle.

A process for replacing a multi-functional original installed harness for a harness or cable for a mobile vehicle in a efficient and time saving manner. More specifically, the procedure involves: (i) identifying the critical electrically engaged components engaged to a multi-functional original installed harness for an engine that requires replacement; (ii) disconnecting the original installed electrical harness from only those critical components; (iii) running an electrical service overlay harness physically adjacent to the original harness; and (iv) engaging the critical components to the service overlay harness. This triage-like repair saves a significant amount of time and effort. The critical components for a vehicle are those in which an electrical fault in a circuit in the multi-functional original installed harness will result in the engine of the vehicle failing to start, failing to run, or will provide a service light or fault light to the driver in the cab of the vehicle indicating the need for immediate service.

Service harness overlay procedure for a mobile vehicle

A mounting base for a light emitting diode (LED) clearance or identification light for a mobile vehicle such as a truck or a bus. The mounting base is comprised of a centerline structural member with intersecting structural members which are engaged to the centerline structural member at the front end and at two other locations between the front end and the rear end of the centerline structural member. An outer cover encases the centerline structural member and the intersecting structural members. The outer cover extends beyond the front end to form an LED mating surface. The LED mating surface has a slot for an engaging an LED element. The centerline structural member has holes at from the from its top edge to bottom edge at the rear end of the centerline structural member and where the centerline structural member intersects the intersecting structural members. The holes correspond to different vehicle roof mounting configurations. The outer cover has holes corresponding to the holes in the centerline structural member. The entire mounting base is tapered downwards from the LED mating surface backwards.
