An implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) receives a cardiac electrical signal by a sensing circuit while operating in a sensing without pacing mode and detects asystole based on the cardiac electrical signal. The ICD determines, in response to detecting the asystole, if asystole backup pacing is enabled, and automatically switches to a temporary pacing mode in response to the asystole backup pacing being enabled. Other examples of detecting asystole and providing a response to detecting asystole by the ICD are described herein.

Asystole detection and response in an implantable cardioverter defibrillator

An implantable medical device includes an activity sensor, a pulse generator, and a control module. The control module is configured to determine activity metrics from the activity signal and determine an activity metric value at a predetermined percentile of the activity metrics. The control module sets a lower pacing rate set point based on the activity metric value at the predetermined percentile.

Dynamic patient-specific filtering of an activity signal within a beating heart

A method and apparatus for determining stability of a patient's intrinsic rhythm in a cardiac pacing device. Cardiac pacing pulses are delivering to a chamber of a patient's heart by the pacing device at a first pulse amplitude. The device measures a first series of intervals between successive sensed and paced events. The device then determines whether the first measured series of intervals meets a stability criterion. Responsive to the first measured series of intervals failing to meet the stability criterion, the device determines whether the first measured series of intervals includes an interval between a delivered pacing pulse and a sensed event that is less than a defined duration. Responsive to the interval between a delivered pacing pulse and a sensed event being less than the defined duration, the device delivers cardiac pacing pulses to the chamber of a patient's heart at a second pulse amplitude and measures a second series of intervals between successive sensed and paced events and determines whether the second measured series of intervals meets the stability criterion.

Method and apparatus for detecting loss of capture

A method and apparatus for identifying loss of capture in a pacing device. While pacing pulses are being delivered, the device checks for emergence of a stable asynchronous underlying intrinsic rhythm in the presence of the delivered pacing pulses. The device determines that loss of capture has occurred responsive to emergence of the underlying rhythm. In response to determining that loss of capture has occurred, pacing provided by device is modified, for example by performing a threshold test and adjusting the energy levels of delivered pacing pulses in response thereto.

Pacing parameters are provided to address cross talk and intrinsic ventricular events occurring within a predefined blanking period following an atrial event. The parameters are used in conjunction with protocol for minimizing or reducing ventricular pacing, wherein ignoring intrinsic ventricular events during the blanking period might otherwise affect the performance of the protocol.

Ventricular event filtering for an implantable medical device

A process provides radar scan conversion from radar amplitude data in polar coordinates to rectangular coordinates by a digital computer which receives (r,.theta.) coordinate amplitude data from a radar receiver and which supplies (x,y) coordinate amplitude which covers a rectangular-shaped display area of a monitor display. A software program generates an aggregate radial scan pattern that consists of a plurality of radials each of which have active lengths that span one or more of a plurality of selected zones of the display such that as the average azimuthal resolution associated with each zone increases, the number of generated radials match the average azimuthal resolution of the display for each zone. The display can be generated as an offset display relative to the antenna center of a display that has no offset.
