A casement window lock and tie bar assembly including a flexible guide pre-formed with an arcuate deflection. The guide receives a tie bar having a c-shaped cross-section. The arcuate deflection of the guide causes the guide to be frictionally held in an initial position on the longitudinal axis of tie bar. When fasteners are tightened to attach the guide to a window frame, the guide is flattened to enable the tie bar to freely slide on the guide.

Roll-form tie bar and guide for casement window

A tie bar and guide assembly for casement windows having a roll form tie bar that snaps on to the tie bar guide without extending through it. The tie bar has locating openings that engage tabs on the tie bar guide to locate and secure the guide prior to installation. The tabs are depressed and disengaged when fasteners are used to secure the tie bar assembly to the window frame. The tie bar can include rivet locking points located close to the top and bottom of the tie bar to provide better security and increased stability for preventing water and air infiltration. The rivet locking points can be adjustable to optimize the fit of the window sash within the frame. The snap-on design reduces the overall height of the tie bar assembly thereby enabling a closer fit of the sash within the frame and reducing the required width of the window frame needed to accommodate the locking mechanism.

An integrated casement window operator and lock, including a gear mechanism and an arm assembly, the arm defining a rack portion and an adjacent arcuate gear portion, the arm mounted to the housing with a pinion gear engaged with the rack portion and the arcuate gear portion, the pinion gear defining a star-shaped aperture therethrough and a handle with a square-shaped shaft portion received in the star-shaped aperture of the gear. The handle is selectively rotatable to shift the arm between a window fully closed position and a window fully open position, wherein an anti-backdrive mechanism is provided to inhibit backdriving of the arm in both the window fully closed window fully open positions.

A multipoint mortise lock mechanism for a swinging door, including a central cassette assembly operably coupled to an upper remote locking point assembly and a lower remote locking point assembly by a remote locking linkage. The central cassette assembly includes a housing, a deadbolt mechanism, a latchbolt mechanism, a remote locking point mechanism and an anti-slam mechanism. The anti-slam mechanism includes an anti-slam plunger that when in an extended position engages the remote locking linkage via a boss and a slot and thereby inhibits movement of the remote locking linkage whereby deployment of the remote locking point assemblies is prevented. The deadbolt mechanism includes a deadbolt extendible from the central cassette that is independently operable from the remote locking point mechanism. The deadbolt mechanism further includes an anti-back drive mechanism.

A low-cost combination tilt-lock-latch mechanism for a sliding window that combines ease of installation and adjustment with simplicity of use. The mechanism includes at least one tilt-latch mechanism adapted for mounting in the window sash. The tilt-latch mechanism includes a housing and a plunger having a latch bolt portion retractable within the housing. A plunger latch member automatically latches the plunger in a retracted position to enable tilting of the sash. Further, the mechanism may include an actuator mechanism and a flexible linking member. The tilt-latch may include a locking member adjustable from outside the housing of the tilt latch, to lock the flexible linking member to the plunger, thereby operably coupling the actuator mechanism with the tilt-latch.

Integrated lock and tilt-latch mechanism for a sliding window

A latch assembly and process for manufacturing such an assembly and process for painting an assembly with a pivoting member are disclosed. The latching assembly comprises a body, a latch moveable between open and closed positions, and a thumb turn mounted for pivotal movement in the body. The thumb turn includes a cylindrical boss mounted for rotation in the body about a central axis of rotation, and a lever arm extending radially outwardly from the central axis of rotation of the cylindrical boss to a free end exposed outside of the body. A plurality of resilient arms having free hook ends engage the cylindrical boss to hold the cylindrical boss in the body while allowing for rotational movement of the cylindrical boss with pivotal movement of the lever arm. The free hook ends are held in a separate position which prevents rotational movement during the painting step of the manufacturing process.

A cover and folding handle assembly for rotating the drive input member of a window operator to open and close a window, including a handle base drivingly engaging the drive input member and an elongate handle having a first end pivotally connected to the handle base so that the handle is movable between an extended position in which the handle is operable to rotate the drive input member and a folded storage position in which the handle overlies the handle base. An opening in the second end of the handle is aligned with an opening in a knob, and an axial pin has a first end received in one of the aligned openings and a second end received in the other of the aligned openings. A rotatably fixed end of the pin is frictionally secured in one of the openings, and the other pin end is received in a sleeve frictionally secured in the other opening and securing a pin head in that opening. The cover has an opening through which the drive input member on the window operator extends. A retainer is securable to the operator through a first undercut tab engaging a locking groove on the operator. The cover has a groove adjacent to its opening snappingly receiving an undercut end of a second retainer tab extending through the cover opening. The cover also has a slot and the retainer has a tab engaged with the slot for preventing rotation of the cover relative to the operator base.

Handle and cover assembly for a window operator

An operator for an awning type window having a sash pivotable about its top side relative to a window frame, with the operator controlling opening and closing movement of the sash relative to the frame. The operator includes a drive gear secured to a base on the frame, a sun gear pivotable about the axis on the base and drivably engaging the drive gear, a primary arm with a planetary gear rotationally attached thereon and drivably engaging the sun gear, a secondary arm pivotally mounted about a second axis on the base, and a pair of drive links pivotally interconnected between the planetary gear and the secondary arm. A bracket is fixed to the sash side opposite the one sash side, a first connecting arm is pivotally connected at one end to the primary arm and at the other end to the bracket, and a second connecting arm is pivotally connected at one end to the secondary arm and at the other end to the bracket, where all of the arms cooperate to move the sash bottom side toward and away from the frame to control opening and closing of the sash in response to rotation of the drive gear. The base includes a fixed primary arm stop which engages the primary arm to prevent lateral shifting of the window when the sash is closed against the frame. The base also includes a fixed secondary arm stop which engages the secondary arm to prevent lateral shifting of the sash during initial opening of the sash from a position closed against the frame.
