An improved rotating control device, having a spool and removable bearing assembly, provides a self-contained hydraulic reservoir that can be operated with standard air pressures from an air hose or other readily available source, eliminating traditional surface hydraulic power units (HPUs). Hydraulically operated pistons can be spring biased to close latching elements around the bearing assembly. Hydraulic fluid can be forced from the self-contained hydraulic reservoir through flow paths to hydraulic cylinders to force the pistons to retract radially outward to release the bearing assembly for removal. The bearing assembly can include a lubricant reservoir to supply gravity-fed or pressurized lubrication for internal roller bearings. The bearing assembly can further include a rotary seal in several embodiments that efficiently reduces risks of dropping bolts on personnel and in the wellbore.

The present disclosure provides a hydraulically controlled pressure relief valve without needing a hydraulic power unit. The valve maintains the accuracy of a hydraulically controlled valve by providing a self-contained closed hydraulic system built into the pressure relief valve. For safety, the valve can be kept open to call attention to the cause of the pressure relief valve activation, yet be easily reinstated into full service without replacing expendable components such as shear pins and rupture pins. The invention offers a pressure relief valve with accuracy, cost, and ease of use.

The present invention provides a pipe union that uses mechanical advantage from leverage between a locknut with circumferential torque openings coupled to a tubular first portion and a torque ring with torque slots coupled to a tubular second portion to tighten the union. The tightening can occur without the need of a hammer impact on lugs. Initial tightening can at least partially align longitudinally the radial holes with the radial slots. Final tightening can occur by rotating the torque openings relative to the torque slots using mechanical advantage. Optionally, the pipe union can provide for a ratcheting mechanism to turn the locknut on the tubular first portion to engage the tubular second portion and exert a preliminary torque on the union. The pipe union design also provides a self-energizing elastomeric seal or metal seal. Angles on load shoulders can assist in creating preloads on the union to seal the components.

A valve cover lock assembly for a pump having a fluid end module can include a ring adapted to couple to the module, an insert comprising a plurality of segments, and a cone adapted to couple with the insert, wherein the ring comprises a first coupler and the insert comprises a second coupler configured to couple with the first coupler, wherein the cone is configured to move one or more of the plurality of segments when the cone is moved, and wherein the first and second couplers are adapted to at least partially resist movement of the insert. A method of locking a valve cover can include coupling a ring to a valve cover opening, disposing an insert comprising a plurality of segments at least partially within the ring, coupling an actuator to the insert, and coupling the insert to the ring.

A lock assembly of a blowout preventer is provided. The blowout preventer includes a ram assembly slidably positionable in the channel and engageable with a tubular. The ram assembly includes a ram block, a ram cylinder, and a ram shaft. The lock assembly includes a lock cylinder and a lock piston. The lock cylinder is operatively connectable to the ram cylinder. The ram shaft has an end slidably extendable into a lock cavity of the lock cylinder. The lock piston is slidably positionable in the lock cylinder and separates the lock cavity into a lock and a closing chamber. The lock piston has a ram surface engageable with the end when the lock piston is in a locked position, and a ram hole therethrough to receive the end when the lock piston is in an unlocked position whereby the ram block is selectively lockable about the tubular.

The present invention provides an assembly, system, and method for an epicyclic washpipe swivel cartridge that can includes a gear reduction assembly with a sealed lubrication enclosure that can operate independent of roller bearings. The cartridge includes a pair of clamshell clamps to insert the cartridge in position without requiring dislocation of the mating assemblies. The system can further include a hydraulic port for efficient activation of the seals before placing high on a top drive of an oil derrick or other remote location.

A wellsite connector for connecting components of a wellsite is provided. The wellsite has a wellbore extending into a subsurface formation. The wellsite connector includes a connector body and a floatable seal. The connector body has an end adapted for coupling to a first of the components, a pocket along an inner surface thereof, and a cavity adapted to receive a second of the components. The floatable seal member includes a seal ring having a hole therethrough to sealingly receive the second of the components. The seal member is slidably movable in the pocket of the connector body transversely to an axis of the connector body whereby the second of the components is alignable to the first of the components for connection therebetween.

A rotational driver for driving a connector through adjacent tubulars is provided. The adjacent tubulars are positionable in a wellbore of a wellsite for passing fluid therethrough. The rotational driver includes a gearbox housing positionable about the connector, a socket carried by the gearbox housing to receivingly engage the connector, and a plurality of gears driven by at least one motor. The gears are operatively connectable to the socket to transfer torque from the motor thereto, and have interlocking teeth defining a plurality of contacts therebetween whereby load on the gears is distributable therebetween.

Apparatus and method for connecting tubulars of a wellsite

The disclosure provides a Type U blowout preventer (BOP) that includes a body generally coupled with a set of bonnets. The bore of the body differs from conventional Type U BOPs. The bore of the body is formed with a contour that allows differential engagement with a ram having ram seals at different places along the bore. Further, the coupling between the bonnet and body can optionally be different from conventional Type U BOPs. In at least one embodiment, the bonnet is coupled to the body in conjunction with a tube holding an extraction shaft with a head held to the bonnet with a retainer. The tube and extraction shaft allows the bonnet to be removed from the body without hydraulic external force.

A clam assembly for connecting adjacent tubulars positionable in a wellbore of a wellsite for passing fluid therethrough comprises at least one drive mechanism. The clam assembly includes a plurality of segments selectively movable between an open position to receive the adjacent tubulars and a closed position positionable around the adjacent tubulars. The segments are disposable about a periphery of the adjacent tubulars. The drive mechanism is carried by the segments, and include a driver to drive a connector through the adjacent tubulars. The driver is movable between a retracted and an extended position to drive the connector whereby a connection is formed between the adjacent tubulars.

Method and apparatus for connecting tubulars of a wellsite

A seal assembly for a blowout preventer of a wellsite is provided. The blowout preventer includes a housing and at least one component operatively connectable to the housing. The housing has a bore and a channel therethrough. A tubular is positionable through the bore and engageable therein. The seal assembly includes a seal plate, a seal carrier, and at least one seal. The seal plate is operatively connectable between the housing and the at least one component of the blowout preventer, and has at least one seal groove extending therein. The seal carrier is disposable about a perimeter of the seal plate, has at least one carrier lip disposable in a seal groove(s), and has at least one seal receptacle. The seal is receivably positionable in the seal receptacle, and in sealing engagement with one of the housing, the component, and combinations thereof.
