A chromogenic window panel assembly, and a chromogenic skylight each includes an outer panel and a chromogenic member having an optical property which varies according to an applied signal. A chromogenic light pipe includes a light harvesting member and a chromogenic member having an optical property which varies according to an applied signal. A chromogenic vehicle sunroof, a chromogenic aircraft window assembly, and a chromogenic window assembly each includes a panel having a particular panel contour corresponding to a surface contour and a chromogenic panel having an optical property which varies according to an applied signal. A chromogenic block includes two panels and a chromogenic panel having an optical property which varies according to an applied signal.

Chromogenic window assembly construction and other chromogenic devices

An energy dissipation assembly is provided for dissipating energy between a vehicle component and a vehicle sheet metal member. The assembly includes a collapsible crash box forming a central aperture therethrough for receiving the vehicle component. The collapsible crash box includes a plurality of collapsible levels oriented concentrically with respect to the central aperture. A sufficient impact against the component causes collapse of the plurality of levels between the component and the sheet metal member, thereby dissipating energy of the impact.

A sun visor is disclosed having a body with an aperture through which an extender blade selectively slides between fully retracted and fully extended positions. The visor body is a clamshell type having first and second shell halves. A guide rib is located on one shell half to align and guide the extender blade as it moves into and out of the visor body. The aperture is formed by a recessed portion in at least one of the shell halves. Fabric covers the visor body and also extends into the aperture and covers at least part of the guide rib.

A console and method of installing a console for a motor vehicle or the like including a passenger cabin. The console includes an accessory module for use by occupants of the vehicle and has a housing with fasteners adapted to mount the console within the vehicle cabin. A chamber having an open side is formed in the console and receives an accessory module. At least a portion of the housing comprises an expanded polymeric material, preferably expended polypropylene, to provide a soft surface within the vehicle cabin. A vehicle sun visor assembly includes a shaft configured for mounting in a vehicle. The shaft includes in-molded first and second electrical wires extending longitudinally along the shaft. The first and second electrical wires include corresponding first and second exposed contact surfaces spaced circumferentially about the shaft. The sun visor body is pivotally and slidably mounted to the shaft and includes first and second mating contacts positioned for selective engagement with the first and second exposed contact surfaces only when the sun visor is positioned at a predetermined pivotal and longitudinal position with respect to the shaft for providing electrical power to a vanity mirror or the like.

A grab handle assembly for attaching a grab handle to a vehicle roof. The grab handle assembly comprises a mounting clip having a fastener that passes through the aligned openings in the headliner and a vehicle roof bracket to secure the mounting clip to the vehicle roof and to additionally mount the headliner to the vehicle roof. The mounting clip further includes a lug extending downwardly from a lower surface of the mounting clip. The grab handle has opposing ends that terminate in a planar tab with an opening, which is sized to receive the lug. To connect the mounting clip and the grab handle, the lug is inserted through the opening in the grab handle and the mounting clip and grab handle are rotated relative to each other approximately 90.degree. to connect the grab handle and the mounting clip.

A lamp assembly for an overhead console having a single lens that selectively operates multiple switches connected to multiple lamps to illuminate a desired area. The single lens has multiple push surfaces such that pressing a first push surface operates one lamp, pressing a second push surface operates another lamp and pressing a third surface operates both lamps simultaneously.

A retractable coat hook assembly comprising a coat hook moveably mounted to a mounting bracket secured to a vehicle roof. The coat hook has a base portion with opposing side walls. A pair of pins extends from each side wall and is received in corresponding grooves in the mounting bracket to rotate the coat hook downwardly about non-fixed rotational axis and translate the coat hook away from the bracket when the coat hook is moved from a retracted to an extended position.

An overhead console for a vehicle has a support structure (14) with walls (30, 80, 82, 84) and an access door (10) defining a compartment (78) for storing a remote transmitter (86). The transmitter (86) includes an actuator switch (92) that is normally manipulated by a user for operating the transmitter (86) to open a garage door, turn on lights, etc., from inside the vehicle. The console access door (10) is attached to the support structure (14) for movement between closed and open positions. A manually operable actuator (12) is engageable with the transmitter switch (92) for operating the transmitter (86) upon depression of the actuator (12). The actuator (12) is attached to the support structure (14) independent of the door (10) such that movement of the actuator (12) is at least substantially unaffected by movement of the door (10) between the closed and open positions. With this arrangement, the transmitter switch (92) and actuator (12) can be mutually aligned with the door (10) in the open position by positioning the transmitter (86) in the compartment (78) and adjusting the transmitter (86) with respect to the actuator (12).

A vehicle coat hook assembly in which the coat hook is recessed into the header and is actuated to hanging and recessed positions by a simple push and release by the operator which linearly moves the coat hook to such positions. The actuation of the coat hook is controlled by a push-push mechanism.

Push-push vehicle clothes hook assembly

A vehicle coat hook assembly in which the coat hook is spring-biased to normally locate the hook closely adjacent to the header of the vehicle but which is extendable against the bias of the spring to provide more area for hanging a greater number of clothes hangers. In a preferred embodiment, a linearly movable stem is connected to the coat hook. In another embodiment, the coat hook is pivotally mounted.

Vehicle coat hook assembly

A damper is snap-fitted in a mounting socket formed adjacent a door frame to engage the door for controlling the movement of the door between closed and open positions. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the socket includes a first pair of spaced legs engaging one side of the damper at opposite ends and a centrally located leg engaging the side of the damper opposite the one side. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the central leg preferably includes an inwardly projecting lip which extends over the top of the damper which rests on a floor extending from the side of the door frame for holding the rotary damper vertically in place.

Closure mounting system

A pivoting cup holder for supporting a beverage container in a vehicle. The cup holder comprises a flat movable drawer which can slide into and out of a retainer set into or below the dashboard or an armrest of an automobile. A semicircular indentation is formed in each side of the drawer. Pivotally mounted to the drawer are a pair of cup rings, each of which is formed with a curved edge complementary to the semicircular indentation. The cup rings are spring-loaded to rotate horizontally to a use position when the drawer is pulled outwardly of the retainer. In the use position the cup rings cooperate with the semicircular indentation to form complete circular retainers for supporting the side wall of a beverage container. The cup holder further comprises a spring loaded bail and cup support which, when the drawer is opened, vertically pivot to a position centered below the circular retainers to brace the bottom surface of the beverage container. When the drawer is moved to a closed position the cup rings pivot to a location in which they overlap with each other and with the semicircular indentations. The bail and cup support similarly pivot to a position in which the cup support projects through the semicircular indentations in the drawer.
