A threaded connection includes a pin member having an external wedge thread increasing in width in a first direction, a box member having an internal wedge thread increasing in width in a second direction so that complementary internal and external wedge threads move into engagement upon make-up of the connection, a box thread stop at an end of the internal wedge thread of the box member, and a pin thread stop at an end of the external wedge thread of the pin member, wherein the pin and box thread stops are configured to contact when the connection is fully engaged.

Abutments for threaded connections

A threaded connection for a conduit includes a pin member and a box member. The pin member includes a pin thread having a pin thread crest, a pin thread root, a pin load flank oriented at a pin load flank angle, and a pin stab flank oriented at a pin stab flank angle. The box member includes a box thread having a box thread crest, a box thread root, a box load flank oriented at a box load flank angle, and a box stab flank oriented at a box stab flank angle. At least one of the pin load flank angle, the pin stab flank angle, the box load flank angle, and the box stab flank angle varies over at least part of the threaded connection.

Threaded connection with variable flank angles

A threaded pipe connection is disclosed that includes a box member and a pin member. The box member has two wedge thread steps each with a tapered, internal, generally dovetail-shaped wedge thread having stab flanks, load flanks, roots, and crests. The pin member has two wedge thread steps each with a tapered, external, generally dovetail-shaped wedge thread having stab flanks, load flanks, roots, and crests. The internal thread of the box member increases in width in one direction. The external thread of the pin member increases in width in the other direction so that complementary flanks of the box member thread move into engagement during rotational make-up of the connection. The roots and crests of at least one wedge thread step on the box member are dimensioned to contact complementary roots and crests on the pin member upon final make-up. Also, stab and load flanks of at least one wedge thread step on the box member are dimensioned to contact complementary stab and load flanks on the pin member upon final make-up.

Two-step, low torque wedge thread for tubular connector

A threaded pipe connection is disclosed that includes a box member and a pin member. The box member has a tapered, internal, generally dovetail-shaped thread incorporated in a two-step wedge configuration such that there exists a smaller step and a larger step each with stab flanks, load flanks, roots, and crests. The internal thread has a beginning and an end and increases in width in one direction. The pin member also has a tapered, external, generally dovetail-shaped thread incorporated in a two-step wedge configuration such that there exists a smaller step and a larger step each with stab flanks load flanks, roots, and crests. The external thread increases in width in the other direction so that the complementary flanks of the respective threads move into engagement during rotational make-up of the connection and form sealing surfaces that resist the flow of fluids between the threads on the smaller step of the box member and the smaller step of the pin member upon rotational make-up of the connection, while leaving clearance between the threads on the larger step of the box member and the larger step of the pin member upon rotational make-up of the connection.

Two-step, differential diameter wedge threaded connector

A stress reduction groove for tubular connections which relates to a threaded pipe connection, and includes a box member, a pin member, and a continuous groove formed in the thread of one of the members. The box member has a tapered, internal, generally dovetail-shaped thread with stab flanks, load flanks, roots, and crests. The internal thread has a beginning and an end and increases in width in one direction. The pin member also has a tapered, external, generally dovetail-shaped thread with stab flanks load flanks, roots, and crests. The external thread increases in width in the other direction so that the complementary flanks of the respective threads move into engagement during rotational make-up of the connection and form sealing surfaces that resist the flow of fluids between the threads upon rotational make-up of the connection. A section of one of the internal and external threads has the continuous groove formed in the roots thereof. The groove extends from either the beginning or the end of the one thread to a point between the beginning and end of the one thread, thereby reducing the pressure that develops between the sealing surfaces during rotational make-up in a thread lubricant applied to the threads.
