A flow control apparatus for producing hydrocarbon material from a subterranean formation is disclosed. The apparatus includes a housing that defines a housing passage, and a flow communicator that extends through the housing for effecting fluid communication between the housing passage and the subterranean formation. The apparatus includes a flow controller within the housing for modulating flow communication between the housing passage and the subterranean formation via the flow communicator. The flow controller includes a filter medium-defining counterpart and a shroud-defining counterpart, and the filter medium-defining counterpart has a filter medium. The flow controller is configurable for disposition relative to the flow communicator to open, close, or screen the flow communicator. While the filter medium and the flow communicator are not aligned, the housing and shroud-defining counterpart shields the filter medium from the housing passage and the external environment.

Downhole flow controller

A wellbore material transfer system is disclosed, and comprises a downhole fluid conductor defining a downhole-conducting fluid passage, an uphole fluid conductor defining an uphole-conducting fluid passage, a flow controller for opening and closing the uphole-conducting fluid passage, and a completion disposed within a wellbore and defining a wellbore interval between the completion and the wellbore, the completion including selectively openable first and second flow communicators. While the flow communicators are open and the uphole-conducting fluid passage is closed, a subterranean formation zone may be fractured, and flow communication is absent, via the second flow communicator and the uphole-conducting fluid passage, between the wellbore interval and the surface. While the flow communicators and the uphole-conducting fluid passage are open, the wellbore interval may be gravel packed, and a solids-depleted fluid is conductible, via the second flow communicator and the uphole-conducting fluid passage, from the wellbore interval to the surface.

Systems and methods for producing hydrocarbon material from unconsolidated formations

A flow control apparatus is provided for deployment downhole as part of a wellbore string. The flow control apparatus includes a flow control member having a screened portion for filtering debris from reservior fluid that is incoming into the wellbore.

There is provided a valve apparatus for disposition within a wellbore that is disposed within a subterranean formation, wherein the valve apparatus includes a housing including: (a) an outermost surface, (b) a fluid passage defined within the housing, (c) a port extending through the housing for effecting fluid communication between the reservoir and the fluid passage, (d) a first groove disposed on the outermost surface and defining a first fluid channel, for conducting reservoir fluid to the port, and extending from an outermost surface portion of the outermost surface to the port, wherein the minimum distance between the outermost surface portion and the port is at least two (2) inches, and a closure member displaceable relative to the port for effecting opening and closing of the port.

Downhole valve apparatus

An improved dual purpose blow out preventer ('BOP') that provides both deployment and wellhead pressure containment functions. The dual purpose BOP may include four sets of rams including a set of seal/slip rams that provide bi-directional sealing being a first barrier to downhole pressure. The seal/slip rams may also grip a portion of a bottom hole assembly and create the bottom seal of an annular chamber. The BOP may include a set of seal rams that create the top seal of the annular chamber. The annular chamber may be pressurized through a port in the BOP, which may actuate a coiled tubing connector. The BOP may include a set of locate rams used to position a coiled tubing connector within the BOP stack. The BOP may also include a set of blind/shear rams that provide bi-directional sealing being a second barrier to wellhead pressure.

Dual purpose blow out preventer

A flow control valve is disclosed for controlling the rotation of a hydraulic motor, such as a turbine, a mud motor, for example, having an element that rotates in response to power fluid. The valve disclosed may include a valve housing and a valve piston, each having a port, moveable relative to one another. When the ports at least partially align, bypass flow is generated which acts to decrease the speed of rotation of the element, such as a turbine shaft. An energizer, such as a pump assembly, is further described which is adapted to move the valve housing or the valve piston in response to the speed of rotation, such that bypass flow is a function of the motor speed (i.e. speed of rotation of the element). A bottom hole assembly including a flow control valve and a method of controlling the rotation of a downhole tool are also described.
