In an example embodiment, a device includes a memory having computer-readable instruction stored therein and a processor. The processor is configured to execute the computer-readable instructions to identify a plurality of communication paths for data transmission between the device and a network gateway, a first one of the plurality of communication paths being associated with a first radio access technology and a second one of the plurality of communication paths being associated with a second radio access technology, and establish a data transmission session between the device and the network gateway simultaneously over at least the first one and the second one of the plurality of communication paths.

A radio access network element includes a cellular interface and a processor. The cellular interface is configured to communicate with the user equipment via a cellular link. The present disclosure generally discloses a hybrid wireless communication system configured to support wireless broadband connectivity for a geographic region including a set of wireless network access devices configured to support wireless communications by a set of communication gateways disposed at locations within the geographic region. The hybrid wireless communication system may be configured to operate across a set of multiple radio spectrum bands associated with a set of multiple carrier frequencies, respectively. Optimizing quality of service in a content distribution network using software defined networking

A method for controlling a plurality of Wi-Fi clients and a plurality of Wi-Fi Access Points (APs) is provided. The method receives M1 and M2 for the Wi-Fi clients and M3 for the Wi-Fi APs. For a respective Wi-Fi client configured to operate on a channel, M1 is a Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) from a serving Wi-Fi AP and M2 is an aggregated level of interference from other than the serving Wi-Fi AP. For a respective Wi-Fi AP, M3 is a level of interference received from other of the Wi-Fi APs operating on the channel. The method generates distributions of M1, M2 and M3, sets a Clear Channel Assessment-Energy Detection (CCA-ED) threshold and a Clear Channel Assessment-Carrier Sense (CCA-CS) threshold based on the distributions of M1, M2 and M3, and transmits the thresholds to the Wi-Fi clients and Wi-Fi APs.

Method and apparatus for Wi-Fi access optimization

In one example embodiment, a network node includes a processor configured to receive one or more data packets from a transmitter and transmit at least one first-type confirmation message to the transmitter based on a threshold, the at least one first-type confirmation message including an acknowledgement that all but at least two bytes of data included in the one or more data packets are received from the transmitter. In at least one example embodiment, a method includes first determining, by a first transmitter having a multi-directional antenna configured to produce a plurality of beams, at least one interference level of at least one interfering beam of a plurality of beams of at least one transmitter in the communication system, second determining a transmitting beam pattern based on the interference level, the transmitting beam pattern indicating a sequence of illuminating the plurality of beams at corresponding time slots, third determining a fractional frequency reuse pattern based on the transmitting beam pattern, and transmitting data based on the transmitting beam pattern and the frequency reuse pattern.

Methods for reducing interference in a communication system

An example method of tactical communication is provided. The method includes receiving information indicating a tactical situation associated with a target area. The tactical situation is one of a missile in-flight, an eavesdropper, a signal jammer, and a transceiver located in a zone of interest. The method further includes performing a beamforming process including instructing transmission of a plurality of signaling beams from one or more transmitters toward the target area. The tactical situation may be associated with a foe and the plurality of signaling beams generate interference inhibiting communication with by the foe. The tactical situation may be associated with a friend and the plurality of signaling beams generate decodable signal for enhancing communication with the friend.

Method and apparatus for beamforming

Method and apparatus for allocating resources to real-time traffic communication in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) based system are provided. An example method includes assigning, selecting, mapping and transmitting. One or more Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) packets are assigned to a single bundled packet. A first modulation and coding scheme (MCS) of a set of MCSs is selected. The first MCS is the one MCS of the set of MCSs capable of mapping the bundled packet to a smallest possible amount of physical OFDMA resources while addressing one or more negative impacts of interference on a link associated with the real-time traffic communication. The bundled packet is mapped to the smallest possible amount of physical OFDMA resources based on the first MCS selected. The bundled packet is transmitted using the first MCS selected and over the smallest possible amount of physical OFDMA resources mapped.

Resource allocation in support of voice over internet protocol (VoIP) in a orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) system

In certain embodiments, a cellular wireless communications network has clusters, each cluster having a plurality of cells and a cluster-level controller that dynamically divides the cluster into non-interfering sub-clusters for each resource allocation unit (e.g., physical resource block). Each sub-cluster has one or more cells that transmit to a single user in the cluster for the resource allocation unit, and at least one sub-cluster has at least two cells that transmit to a single user for the resource allocation unit using a distributed diversity mode of communication in which the at least two cells transmit the same data to the single user. The controller divides the cluster into sub-clusters based on determinations of whether users in the cluster are susceptible to interference from non-serving cells in the cluster. By assigning potentially interfering, non-serving cells to the sub-cluster for a user, those non-serving cells are eliminated as sources of interference.
