A coating composition has storage stability, and provides a highly durable coating on various substrates, such as wood. It can be a clear coating or a staining composition. The critical components of the composition are a self-curing vinyl polymer, an ammonia-neutralized polyurethane and a water-soluble catalyst to promote rapid curing under ambient conditions.

A coating composition is stable upon long term storage and provides a highly durable coating on various substrates, such as wood. It can be a clear coating or a staining composition. The critical components of the composition are a self-curing vinyl polymer, a neutralized polyurethane, a water-soluble catalyst to promote rapid curing under ambient conditions, and an aldehyde, carbodiimide or polyfunctional aziridine which reduces discoloration of the composition upon storage.

Curable resin compositions comprising a blend of an epoxy resin, a polyurethane resin which comprises the reaction product of (A) a polyisocyanate, (B) a polyester resin and (C) a dihydric alcohol, and a standard epoxy resin curing agent. These resinous compositions, when cured, retain excellent resilience and exhibit outstanding adhesion. They are especially useful for bonding vinyl materials.
