A collection environment comprises a collection canvas. The collection canvas may have included therein written text and a file graphic associated with a media file. Responsive to an invocation of the media file, media controls with which to control a media mode associated with the media file are presented. Responsive to a modification to the media mode initiated through the media controls, an appearance of the file graphic is modified to reflect the modification to the media mode.

Systems, methods, and software for facilitating enhanced collection environments are disclosed. In at least one implementation, a collection environment is presented that includes a presentation recording and a written paragraph. The presentation recording includes presentation sections while the paragraph includes written sections. A user input may be directed to the written paragraph. One of the written paragraphs is identified as corresponding to the user input. In addition, one the presentation sections is identified as corresponding to the written section. A media function can then be applied to the presentation section in the presentation recording.

Enhanced collection environments

Navigation of multiple information item hierarchies within a same application display pane or view is provided. Information items may be displayed in a customized collection of information items, for example, a 'favorites' collection, that may be assembled from a variety of content sources and that may be persisted across a variety of information item views.

Navigating content hierarchies and persisting content item collections

Feedback via an input device associated with an interaction with a point of interest (POI) and scribble recognition is provided. When using an input device to navigate a GUI, various POIs may be determined as elements beneficial for a user to notice, pay attention to, or avoid. When an input is received that may be associated with a POI, feedback may be provided. Feedback may include haptic, visual, or audible feedback. Scribble recognition may also be provided. When using an input device (e.g., digital pen), a user may 'scribble' in a margin to test pen attributes. Upon recognizing a scribble, alternative pen attributes may be presented in a contextual menu. In addition, the scribble may be automatically erased upon selection of a pen attribute or upon receiving input in another area of the UI or alternatively, feedback may be provided prior to erasure of the scribble input.

Context based menus that can be dynamically positioned, laid out, and activated are provided for tap, swipe, and press-and-hold type interactions. Presenting a plurality of executable commands and/or links to submenus, a context based menu may be displayed in various shapes and forms in relation to selected content displayed on a user interface and/or other factors such as available display space, user attributes, and similar ones. Submenus presenting commands within a category may be displayed in place of, adjacent to, or overlapping with a parent context based menu. Menu position, contents, and/or shape may be adjusted in response to changes in selected content, user contact location, changes in user interface, and the like.

Dynamic context based menus

A shared electronic calendar modification notice provides calendar users accessing the calendar with notification that a calendar modification has been made by another calendar user. A shared electronic calendar user accessing the shared calendar is identified. Upon identifying a shared electronic calendar user, calendar modifications that are new to the shared electronic calendar user are identified. Modification notices are then output to communicate the new calendar modifications to the calendar user.

Communicating shared electronic calendar modifications

An electronic collection bin is provided for assisting users in managing their personal information. The electronic collection bin provides a common location for collecting and organizing a user's information. The electronic collection bin may receive information items of varying data types and from disparate sources. After receiving an information item, the electronic collection bin analyzes the item to determine a suggested treatment, which may include conversion of the item to a new data type located at another location. A user may access the electronic collection bin, sort through the information items, and select placement of the information items. The user may view the suggested treatments of information items in the electronic collection bin and choose whether to accept the suggested treatments.

Collection bin for data management and transformation

Methods and systems for prioritizing items and displaying those items in a single view of a personal information management (PIM) application are disclosed. PIM software can prioritize items for display in the single view based on a comparison of the date of creation of the item versus the amount of time remaining to complete the item. PIM software may also take into account a priority level of the item. As an item has less time remaining as compared to the date of creation, the likelihood the item will be included in the single display increases. Any item whose due date is 'today' may be included in the single view. Items without due dates might not ever appear in the single view. Users can thus get a quick overview of items that need to be taken care of that day, without being inundated with items that can wait until another day.
