Artificial marble chip, method of preparing the same and artificial marble including the same

The present invention relates to transparent chips for artificial marble and artificial marble including the same. The transparent chips for artificial marble include (A) a halogenated epoxy acrylate resin and (B) metal fibers. The transparent chips are fabricated by adding metal fibers to a transparent resin. The transparent chips for artificial marble can implement both linear stripe patterns and three-dimensional effects inherent thereto, thereby providing an aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Transparent artificial chips and artificial marble comprising the same

An artificial marble chip of the present invention comprises curable resin, metal fiber and/or inorganic fiber, and inorganic filler. The metal fiber and/or inorganic fiber preferably have an average length of about 1 to about 6 mm and an average particle diameter of about 10 to about 15 &#x3bc;m. An artificial marble according to the present invention is produced by using the artificial marble chip, curable resin matrix, and inorganic filler as main components. The curable resin is preferably selected from acrylic resin, unsaturated polyester resin, epoxy resin, or a copolymer thereof. The artificial marble according to the present invention is produced by the steps of: producing an artificial marble composition by mixing the artificial marble chip, the inorganic filler, and other additives into the curable resin matrix; and curing the composition at about 25 to about 180&#xb0; C. The invention can also include the step of defoaming the composition prior to curing.

Artificial marble chips, artificial marble containing same, and production method therefor

The present invention provides transparent chips with natural metal-like texture by coating silica-containing transparent chips with colored material, such as a metal powder, in a transparent resin as a base resin. The present invention also provides artificial stone with natural metal-like texture and patterns by mixing the colored material coated transparent chips and inorganic filler with a matrix resin. The artificial stone of the present invention can be prepared by mixing about 4 to about 24 parts by weight of inorganic filler and about 0.1 to about 5.0 parts by weight of the colored material coated transparent chips, per about 1 part by weight of the matrix resin. The colored material coated transparent chips can have a specific gravity of about 2.0 to about 2.65, while the matrix resin can have a specific gravity of about 2.2 to about 2.8, and the specific gravity of the transparent chips can be equal to or lower than the specific gravity of the matrix resin in promote uniform distribution of the transparent chips in the matrix resin.
