Electronic design automation systems and methods are presented for top-down timing budget flow in master-clone scenarios. In some embodiments, different instances of a master-clone block within an integrated circuit design are associated with different constraint files. The different constraint files are based on the different connections of each instance with elements of the integrated circuit design as well as the shared structure of the master-clone block. A top-down timing budget flow may then be generated based on the differing constraint files, and the integrated circuit design may be modified based on this analysis prior to generation of physical devices based on the design.

Multi-instantiated block timing optimization

A system, method and/or computer program for optimizing a circuit design. In some embodiments, a target block with an external boundary and external boundary pins is identified in an integrated circuit design. An area outside the target block is converted into a first macro, wherein the first macro has a physical library and a timing library and wherein the physical library has an internal boundary that corresponds to the external boundary of the target block and wherein the physical library has internal boundary pins that correspond to the external boundary pins of the target block. The target block is represented as a single block netlist and the block netlist is optimized with respect to the first macro. The steps may be repeated with respect to a master and clone(s) on the same integrated circuit enabling a single block netlist to be optimized for multiple instances of the same design IP.

Method and apparatus for master-clone optimization during circuit analysis

Disclosed are methods, systems, and articles of manufacture for implementing full-chip optimization across block boundaries with reduced physical design data. Some embodiments create a partial netlist and reduced physical data by identifying and including side instance(s) or side path(s) in the reduced physical data and then include or exclude side instance(s) or side path(s) in the reduced physical data. The method or the system may then perform full-chip optimization across individual block boundaries with the reduced physical data. Some embodiments further merge the post-optimization data back into the original data while reducing logic and physical disturbance to existing designs. Some embodiments anchor driver instance(s) that correspond to excluded side instance(s) or side path(s) to ensure LEC cleanliness and may further trim timing graph(s) based at least on the partial netlist. Some embodiments account for parasitics without static parasitic files. Various embodiments apply to both hierarchical and non-hierarchical designs.

Methods, systems, and articles of manufacture for implementing full-chip optimization with reduced physical design data

A system, method, and computer program product for automatically optimizing circuit designs. A graphical user interface based environment allows arbitrary selection of a circuit design region to be optimized based on physical layout, without regard for logical hierarchy. Embodiments analyze circuit paths crossing optimization region boundaries and replace externally connected circuitry with an interface logic model describing such circuitry from the optimization region boundary to a first register occurrence. A reduced netlist spans the regional circuitry and the modeled external circuitry. Embodiments optimize the reduced netlist under design constraints applicable to the full circuit design. Changes to the original circuit design made by the optimization are tangibly saved as engineering change orders. The optimization process may be applied to other regions, including via parallel execution by multiple processors. Conventional design bottlenecks may be bypassed for greatly improved quality of results and reduced turnaround time.

Reverse interface logic model for optimizing physical hierarchy under full chip constraint

Operations are performed in EDA tools that operate upon partitions or discrete portions of an electronic design, in which the partitions or discrete portions of the design are expanded to account for effects to/from other areas in the design. Identification is made of the portions of the design that are external to the partitions, and depending upon the type of expected effects, would then be considered during optimization and analysis of the partitions. This is implemented by logically expanding the partition to include consideration of the external portions during timing optimization and analysis. By considering an expanded partition for timing optimization and analysis, it is possible to identify unintended problems caused by the timing optimization at an earlier stage of the design process.
