Methods and system for chromatic confocal microscopy are described. One example chromatic confocal microscope system includes a hyperchromatic objective lens configured to focus the light of different wavelengths onto different corresponding focal planes that are separated from one another within a sample object, focusing optics positioned to receive multi-spectral light reflected from the sample object after passing through the hyperchromatic objective lens, a detection slit to receive light from the focusing optics and to block at least a portion of light that is incident thereon, and a grating positioned to receive light after passing through the detection slit and to produce spatially separated light of different wavelengths to enable the detection of spatially separated light by an imaging sensor. The described chromatic confocal microscopes may be used to develop low-cost chromatic confocal endoscopes for disease diagnosis of human internal organs in vivo.

Method and apparatus for confocal microscopes

Methods, devices and systems for confocal microscopy of human tissues or other samples are described that can be manufactured at a low cost, and are small and portable. One apertureless confocal microscope includes a dispersion element that produces output beams having different spectral components for illumination of a target, such as a tissue. The confocal microscope also includes one or more lenses that receive reflected beams from the target and focus the reflected beams onto a linear variable filter. The linear variable filter is positioned to receive the focused light to allow a particular range of spectral components of light to pass through the linear variable filter that is a function of a spatial location of the focused light incident on the linear variable filter. The described confocal microscopes, among other features and benefits, can greatly facilitate disease diagnosis in medical applications.

Apertureless confocal microscopy devices and methods

Devices, systems and methods are described that can be used to develop confocal microscopes with high lateral resolution. One example confocal microscope includes a first dispersion element that receives a light beam and to produce illumination beams with different spectral components, and an objective that receives reflected light upon reflection of the illumination beams from a target. The confocal microscope further includes a second dispersion element that receives the reflected light after propagation through in the objective lens, and a third dispersion element that receives the dispersed light associated with the second dispersion element and provides an output light to a camera lens for focusing onto a detector. The second and the third dispersion elements are positioned such that each point on the detector is conjugate to a corresponding single point on the target. Some applications of the disclosed confocal microscopes include skin disease diagnosis and imaging of freshly-excised tissues.

Scan-less confocal microscope with high resolution related applications

An exemplary apparatus for obtaining data for at least one portion within at least one luminal or hollow sample can be provided. For example, the apparatus can include a first optical arrangement configured to transceive at least one electromagnetic radiation to and from the portion(s). The apparatus can also include a wavelength dispersive second arrangement, which can be configured to disperse the electromagnetic radiation(s). A housing can be provided with a shape of a pill, and enclosing the first and second arrangements.

Apparatus, device and method for capsule microscopy

An apparatus for imaging an anatomical structure(s) can be provided. For example, a housing arrangement can have a shape of a pill and can be to be delivered to the anatomical structure(s). An imaging arrangement can be configured to generate a microscopic image of the anatomical structure(s), wherein the imaging arrangement can include a variable focus lens, and can be provided in the housing arrangement.

Objective lens arrangement for confocal endomicroscopy

Exemplary apparatus, systems, methods of making, and methods of using a rotary junction are provided. A rotary junction having multiple channels is provided herein. The rotary junction has a first coupling optic and a second coupling optic where the rotating optical fiber or other waveguide comping from the first coupling optic passes through the second coupling optics.

An apparatus comprising at least: a first waveguide; a second waveguide; and a diffractive element. The first waveguide guides a first band of onto the diffractive element such that the first band is diffracted at an mnon-zero order over a first range of angles. Multi-bandwidth spectrally encoded endoscope

Exemplary embodiments of apparatus and method according to the present disclosure are provided. For example, an apparatus for providing electromagnetic radiation to a structure can be provided. The exemplary apparatus can include a first arrangement having at least two wave-guides which can be configured to provide there through at least two respective electro-magnetic radiations with at least partially different wavelengths from one another. The exemplary apparatus can also include a dispersive second arrangement structured to receive the electro-magnetic radiations and forward at least two dispersed radiations associated with the respective electro-magnetic radiations to at least one section of the structure. The wave-guide(s) can be structured and/or spatially arranged with respect to the dispersive arrangement to facilitate at least partially overlap of the dispersed radiations on the structure. In addition, another arrangement can be provided which can include at least two further wave-guides which can be configured to receive the electro-magnetic radiations from the dispersive arrangement. Each of the further wave-guides can be structured and/or spatially arranged with respect to the dispersive arrangement to facilitate a receipt of a different one of the such electro-magnetic radiations as a function of wavelengths thereof.

Apparatus and method for facilitating at least partial overlap of dispersed ration on at least one sample

A spectrally encoded endoscopic probe. The probe has a light guiding component, a light focusing component, and a grating component. The probe is configured such that a set of light beams of multiple wavelengths are diffracted by the grating component in different orders at substantially the same angle. The set of light beams includes at least 3 light beams. Each light beam among the set of light beams is associated with a different wavelength.

Exemplary spectrally encoded probes are provided having forward view capabilities. These probes are configured such that the detection element comprises a plurality of light collecting components, where the distal ends at least partially surround the illumination element and the proximal ends form a linear array that is optically connected to a dispersive component.

An apparatus for spectrally encoded endoscopy (SEE) comprising an illumination element, a detection light guiding element, a rotary element, and a two-dimensional sensor. The illumination element is configured to direct an illumination light beam towards a sample. The detection light guiding element is configured to collect a reflected light beam from the sample. At least one of the illumination element and the detection light guiding element is configured to spectrally dispersed the illumination light beam or the reflected light beam, respectively. The rotary element is configured to rotate or oscillate the reflected light beam. The reflected light beam is guided from the rotary element to the two-dimensional sensor.

Exemplary method and system for providing a diffractive configuration in an optical arrangement are provided. For example, a material can be provided with at least one patterned surface having a very high aspect ratio. The material can be connected with at least one portion of a waveguide arrangement using a pre-polymer adhesive composition. Further, the pre-polymer adhesive composition can be caused to polymerize so as to form the diffractive configuration which at least approximately replicates a structure or at least one feature of the patterned surface.
