System and methods for optimizing flow distribution across multiple production zones are provided. A flow distribution is assigned to a plurality of production zones along a wellbore within a formation. A temperature value is estimated for each of the production zones, based on the assigned flow distribution. The estimated temperature value is compared with an actual temperature value determined for each production zone. An error amount for the estimated temperature value is calculated based on the comparison. Based on the error amount, it is determined whether or not the flow distribution has reached a global optimum. The assigning, the estimating, the comparing, the calculating, and the determining are repeated until it is determined that the flow distribution assigned to the plurality of production zones has reached the global optimum.

At least some of the disclosed systems and methods employ one or more seismic receivers that gather seismic data from a plurality of positions in a borehole that penetrates a formation. Further, at least some of the disclosed systems and methods employ a memory to store the gathered seismic data. Further, at least some of the disclosed systems and methods employ logic that inverts the seismic data for simultaneous determination of asymmetric axis velocity (V) and Thomsen parameters, epsilon (&#x3b5;) and delta (&#x3b4;), in a tilted transversely isotropic (TTI) model.

A seismic data analysis system includes seismic receivers to collect seismic survey data, wherein the seismic survey data includes direct and reflected arrival data in response to at least one seismic source fired at different shot offsets. The system also includes memory that stores the collected seismic survey data. The system also includes a processing unit that extracts traveltimes for direct and reflected arrivals from the seismic survey data and performs an inversion using the direct and reflected arrival traveltimes simultaneously to determine anisotropy parameters, including Thomsen parameters, epsilon (&#x3b5;) and delta (&#x3b4;), for at least one layer of a vertical transversely isotropic (VTI) model.

In some embodiments, an apparatus and a system, as well as a method and an article, may operate to receive seismic survey data for use with an isotropic velocity model describing a selected geological formation volume. Further activity may include exhaustively searching the seismic survey data to provide an error map, globally optimizing the error map to provide anisotropy parameters for the selected geological formation volume, and inverting the anisotropy parameters to transform the isotropic velocity model into an anisotropic velocity model for the selected geological formation volume.
