A head-mounted display including multiple displays tiled together is provided. A first display may include an active region and an inactive region. A second display may be aligned with the inactive region. The first display and the second display may have different resolutions and may present visual information with different display qualities based on their respective resolutions. For example, the first display may include a lower resolution than the second display. The inactive region may be centered in the first display, and the second display may be centered with respect to the first display. The head-mounted display may provide a continuous image(s) (or video(s)) with a high resolution on the second display, while providing the remainder of the image(s) on the low resolution first display. Based on the multiple displays being tiled, the multiple displays may present one or more images, or one or more videos, in a non-overlapping manner.

Multi-display assembly for artificial reality systems

A lenticular display may be formed with convex curvature. The lenticular display may have a lenticular lens film with lenticular lenses that extend across the length of the display. The lenticular lenses may be configured to enable stereoscopic viewing of the display. To enable more curvature in the display while ensuring satisfactory stereoscopic display performance, the display may have stereoscopic zones and non-stereoscopic zones. A central stereoscopic zone may be interposed between first and second non-stereoscopic zones. The non-stereoscopic zones may have more curvature than the stereoscopic zone. To prevent crosstalk within the lenticular display, a louver film may be incorporated into the display. The pixel array may have a diagonal layout and may be covered by vertically oriented lenticular lenses.

Pixel arrangements for electronic device displays

A device includes a micro-organic light emitting diode (μ-OLED) display panel and an electronic component. An electrical connector electrically couples the μ-OLED display panel and the electronic component. A standoff is disposed between the electronic component and the μ-OLED display panel. The standoff physically couples the electronic component and the μ-OLED display panel with a gap therebetween. The gap thermally decouples the electronic component from the μ-OLED display panel. A U-shaped heat sink can be disposed in the standoff, and heat generated by the μ-OLED display can be mitigated by a system fan when a U-shaped heat sink is disposed in the standoff.

Micro-OLED display module thermal management

A power supply unit adapts based on an image to be displayed by a display panel. The power supply unit includes a controller circuit for generating a power control signal, and a power supply circuit for generating one or more power supply voltages having a waveform based the power control signal. The controller circuit receives a set of configuration parameters from a display device and generates the power control signal based on the set of configuration parameters. The configuration parameters are stored in a look-up table of the display device.

A display system includes (a) a display element having an organic light emitting diode-containing display active area disposed over a silicon backplane, (b) a display driver integrated circuit (DDIC) attached to the display element and electrically connected with the display active area, and (c) a thermal barrier disposed within the silicon backplane, where the thermal barrier is configured to inhibit heat flow through the silicon backplane and into the display active area.

Embodiments relate to a display device including pixels arranged in rows and columns, where duty cycles of the pixels are dynamically programmed according to eye tracking information. For a display frame, the display device may determine a gaze region and a non-gaze region based on the eye tracking information. A control circuit of the display device controls a first subset of pixels in the gaze region to operate with a first duty cycle and controls a second subset of pixels in the non-gaze region to operate with a second duty cycle greater than the first duty cycle. The first subset of pixels emits light with greater brightness than the second subset of pixels.

Embodiments relate to a display device including an active display area with pixels arranged in rows and columns, where a focus area of the active display area is operated in a progressive scanning manner and a non-focus area of the active display area is operated in an interlaced scanning manner. The active display area is driven by a gate driver circuit that supplies gate signals the pixels. First stages of the gate driver circuit are coupled to first rows of the pixels that are in the focus area and output first gate signals in the progressive scanning manner. Second stages of the gate driver circuit are coupled to second rows of the pixels that are in the non-focus area and output second gate signals in the interlaced scanning manner.

Systems and electronic displays with improved contrast even under bright-light conditions are provided. Such an electronic display may include a self-emissive pixel (e.g., OLED or &#x3bc;-LED) with a corresponding liquid crystal switchable retarder pixel. A liquid crystal layer of the switchable retarder pixel may be tuned to an 'on' state or an 'off' state. In the &#x201c;on&#x201d; state, the switchable retarder pixel may allow outside light that enters the pixel to reflect back out of the pixel. This may add to the amount of light that appears to be emitted from that pixel. In the &#x201c;off&#x201d; state, the switchable retarder pixel may block the outside light that enters the pixel from reflecting back out of the pixel. This may reduce the amount of light that appears to be emitted from that pixel. Selectively controlling the switchable retarder pixels may allow for increased contrast even under bright-light conditions.

An organic light-emitting diode display may have an array of pixels with sets of pixels arranged in rows and columns. Each set of pixels includes a red pixel, a green pixel, a blue pixel, and a white pixel. The red pixels each have a white diode and a red color filter element to impart a red color to white light from that white diode. The green pixels each have a white diode and a green color filter element to impart a green color to white light from that white diode. The white pixels each have an unfiltered white diode. The blue pixels each have an unfiltered blue diode. The unfiltered white and blue diodes do not have color filters and emit white and blue light for the white and blue pixels, respectively. The white and blue diodes may be tandem diodes having two or more emissive layers.
