Provided are a natural graphite, a modified natural graphite material prepared therefrom, a preparation method, and applications. The natural graphite has the following characteristics: a particle size D50 smaller than 10 μm, and D90/D10<2.5; a 002 interplanar spacing ranging from 0.336 to 0.360 nm, I/I≤35; a saturated tap density greater than or equal to 0.6 g/cc and smaller than 1.3 g/cc; and a specific surface area greater than or equal to 1.0 m/g and smaller than 10.0 m/g. The provided natural graphite has specific particle size, orientation, tap density and surface area and can serve as a raw material for preparing modified natural graphite material, and the prepared modified natural graphite material has high isotropy and thus has better rate performance and cycle performance.

Provided are a preparation method of a long-cycle modified graphite-based composite material and a lithium ion battery containing the material. The method including: (1) mixing a graphite material and a coating modifier; (2) placing the mixture into a self-pressurized reaction device, then placing the device in a heating apparatus to perform a self-pressurized impregnation experiment, during which temperature is controlled to increase in such a manner that the coating modifier is gradually liquefied after reaching a softening point, to completely impregnate the graphite material under self-pressurizing and to be distributed on a surface of the graphite material; (3) cooling; and (4) performing a heat treatment in an inert atmosphere to obtain the modified graphite-based composite material.

A low-swelling graphite anode material, a preparation method thereof, and a lithium ion battery including the graphite anode material. The preparation method of the graphite anode material includes: (1) mixing a graphite raw material with a modifier, and then performing heating modification; (2) performing heat treatment on the modified graphite under a protective atmosphere; and (3) performing post-treatment on the heat-treated graphite to obtain the graphite anode material. The graphite anode material has an extremely low swelling rate, excellent cycle performance, and outstanding rate performance, an swelling rate being 24.3% or lower, a normal temperature 10C/1C discharge capacity retention rate being greater than 90%, and a capacity retention rate after charging and discharging for 300 times being 91% or greater.
