A liquid crystal display and a method of fabricating the same is capable of strengthening adhesion between a sealant and a lower plate in a panel with a high aperture ratio to which an organic protective film is applied. The organic protective film and a gate insulating film are patterned in such a manner that the sealant comes into contact with a substrate directly. Accordingly, the organic protective film or the gate insulating film at the area coated with the sealant is partially or entirely removed to directly contact the sealant with the gate insulating film or the lower glass, thereby strengthening the adhesion between the sealant and the lower plate.

Liquid crystal display and fabrication method thereof

A liquid crystal display has a pad structure. The pad structure includes at least one pad formed on a substrate, an insulating film formed on the pad, and at least one conductive layer connected to the pad through contact holes defined through the insulating film. The insulating film covers side surfaces of the pad and a portion of the substrate adjacent to the side surfaces of the pad.

A storage electrode extends from the pixel electrode to be overlapped partially with the gate line and is spaced from the data line by a desired width (&#x3b4;) at one or more corners thereof.

A first step coverage-compensating layer is provided between a substrate on which the main seal has been coated and the main seal. A plurality of dummy seals is arranged external to the main seal. A second step coverage-compensating layer having the same thickness as the first step coverage-compensating layer is provided between the substrate on which the dummy seals are arranged and the dummy seals. Accordingly, a main seal and dummy seals having the same thickness produce uniform liquid crystal cell gaps. The liquid crystal display device is beneficially made by a fabrication process employing four or five masks.

Liquid crystal display device having more uniform seal heights and its fabricating method

An LCD panel includes a plurality of gate lines and gate electrodes formed on a substrate and a gate insulating film formed on the substrate including the gate lines and the gate electrodes. A semiconductor film is formed in a region on the gate insulating film and an ohmic contact film formed on the semiconductor film. A plurality of data lines cross the gate lines; a source electrode is formed on the ohmic contact film; and a pixel electrode is formed in a pixel region defined by the gate and data lines. A drain electrode is formed on the ohmic contact film, and has an uneven width. Since a portion of drain electrode that overlaps with the gate electrode has a smaller width than a width of other portions of the drain electrode, variation in an area of the drain electrode overlapped with the gate electrode is small, so that variation of the parasitic capacitance can be reduced, thereby improving picture quality.

A liquid crystal display panel according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a first shorting bar inspecting a signal line in a non-display area of a first substrate; a second shorting bar inspecting the signal line in the non-display area of the inspected first substrate attached to a second substrate; a first shorting line connected to at least one of the signal lines and the first and second shorting bars; and a second shorting line connected the second shorting bar with the remaining signal line except the signal line connected to the first shorting line.

A liquid crystal display (LCD) panel that has even luminance with high picture quality is disclosed. The LCD panel includes a first substrate provided with a plurality of gate and data lines, the gate lines being arranged to cross the data lines to define a plurality of pixel regions in a matrix arrangement; a second substrate provided with a black matrix layer to shield portions other than the pixel region from light; and a liquid crystal layer injected between the first and second substrates, wherein the pixel regions at a surrounding portion have an aperture ratio lower than that of the pixel regions at the other portions.

A liquid crystal display has a gate line structure for serving as a storage electrode and a black matrix and performing a repair function. In the liquid crystal display, a gate dummy pattern is formed in such a manner to be extended in the vertical direction from the gate line and to overlap with the data line and the pixel electrode. The gate dummy pattern branches from the gate line, overlaps the edge of a pixel, serves a storage electrode and a black matrix, and permits repair upon breakage of a data line.

The liquid crystal display device includes: first and second substrates; a plurality of gate lines and data lines disposed crossly on the first substrate to define a pixel region; a thin film transistor formed at a cross point of the gate lines and the data lines; a passivation film coated on the entire surface of the first substrate including the thin film transistor; a pixel electrode connected to the thin film transistor, partially overlapping with the neighboring gate lines and the neighboring data lines and formed on the passivation film corresponding to the pixel region; and a black matrix formed on a predetermined area of the second substrate.
