Provided is an apparatus and method for obtaining depth information using an optical pattern. The apparatus for obtaining depth information using the optical pattern may include: a pattern projector to generate the optical pattern using a light source and an optical pattern projection element (OPPE), and to project the optical pattern towards an object area, the OPPE comprising a pattern that includes a plurality of pattern descriptors; an image obtaining unit to obtain an input image by photographing the object area; and a depth information obtaining unit to measure a change in a position of at least one of the plurality of pattern descriptors in the input image, and to obtain depth information of the input image based on the change in the position.

A system and method for data matching are disclosed. A user terminal included in the system includes a data provider, a data consumer, and a mapper. The data provider receives life log data of a user which is collected by at least one life log collecting apparatus. Provided is a method and an apparatus for vocal-cord signal recognition. A signal processing unit receives and digitalizes a vocal cord signal, and a noise removing unit which channel noise included in the vocal cord signal. A feature extracting unit extracts a feature vector from the vocal cord signal, which has the channel noise removed therefrom, and a recognizing unit calculates a similarity between the vocal cord signal and the learned model parameter. Consequently, the apparatus is robust in a noisy environment.

The second higher-level proxy selectively permits the proxy change if the mobility of the mobile host is smaller than the mobility threshold of the second higher-level proxy.

The invention relates to a call control method for handoff guarantee in a mobile terminal for minimizing handoff failure rate which continuously guarantees the same quality of service is during handoff of an existing call from the current cell into a new cell in a high-speed radio communication network which is constituted of micro-cells to support multimedia traffic. The bandwidth reservation is performed in the adjacent cells, call approval control is performed by temporarily storing a handoff request into a queue when an available bandwidth is insufficient, and a radio bandwidth is dynamically managed so as to efficiently use communication network resources. Further, new call block rate and handoff failure rate are periodically monitored for adaptation to dynamic variation of the communication network traffic state, by which the amount of a reserved bandwidth is dynamically adjusted according to the state so as to efficiently use communication network resources.

Potable multimedia terminal which is small and consumes low power, can process a large quantity of multimedia data such as video and audio data. Portable multimedia data input/output processor can be made smaller by using a pen as an input device and can also process a large quantity of multimedia data at a high speed by adopting a PCI bus as a local bus of a system. To retrieve, compress, and decompress multimedia data, main components of this portable multimedia data input/output processor are comprised of audio codec for compressing and decompressing audio data, video codec controller for compressing and decompressing video data, and multimedia processor for transmitting audio data to wireless communication controller and video data to video codec controller and to graphic processor. The method for retrieving multimedia data includes steps of receiving data, de-interleaving received data into audio, video, and graphic data, decompressing the data, and outputting the data to output device. The method for compressing data includes steps of inputting video data to video codec controller, compressing video and audio data at video codec controller and audio codec, interleaving the compressed data, and transmitting them to a remote system. The steps to decompress data are in reverse to the steps to compress data.
