A method, apparatus or system for processing point cloud information can involve a learned deep entropy model over octrees for lossless compression/decompression of 3D point cloud data, wherein self-supervised compression/decompression involves an adaptive entropy coder operating on a tree-structured conditional entropy model and utilizing information from the local neighborhood as well as the global topology from the tree structure.

Apparatus and method for point cloud processing

Systems and methods are described for refining first point cloud data using at least second point cloud data and one or more sets of quantizer shifts. An example point cloud decoding method includes obtaining data representing at least a first point cloud and a second point cloud; obtaining information identifying at least a first set of quantizer shifts associated with the first point cloud; and obtaining refined point cloud data based on at least the first point cloud, the first set of quantizer shifts, and the second point cloud. The obtaining of the refined point cloud data may include performing a subtraction based on at least the first set of quantizer shifts. Corresponding encoding systems and methods are also described.

3D point cloud enhancement with multiple measurements

Several implementations relate to 3D video formats. One or more implementations provide adaptations to MVC and SVC to allow 3D video formats to be used. According to a general aspect, a set of images including video and depth is encoded. The set of images is related according to a particular 3D video format, and are encoded in a manner that exploits redundancy between the set of images. The encoded images are arranged in a bitstream in a particular order, based on the particular 3D video format that relates to the images. The particular order is indicated in the bitstream using signaling information. According to another general aspect, a bitstream is accessed that includes the encoded set of images. The signaling information is also accessed. The set of images is decoded using the signaling information.

Method and apparatus for encoding and decoding 3D video content

Implementations are provided that relate, for example, to view tiling in video encoding and decoding. A particular method includes accessing a video picture that includes multiple pictures combined into a single picture (), accessing information indicating how the multiple pictures in the accessed video picture are combined (), decoding the video picture to provide a decoded representation of at least one of the multiple pictures (), and providing the accessed information and the decoded video picture as output (). A processor encodes blocks of a current point cloud frame to produce an encoded frame. Wherein, for encoding a current block of the current point cloud frame, a reference block is selected similar to the current block according to a similarity metric to serve as a reference to encode the current block. Pair each point in the current block to a point in the reference block based on values of the paired points. Encode the current block based on a combination of an identification of the reference block and residuals between the values of the paired points. Wherein the residuals are ordered according to an order of the values of the points in the reference block. A transmitter transmits the encoded frame over a communication channel.

Several implementations relate, for example, to depth encoding and/or filtering for 3D video (3DV) coding formats. A sparse dyadic mode () for partitioning macroblocks (MBs) along edges in a depth map is provided as well as techniques for trilateral (or bilateral) filtering of depth maps that may include adaptive selection between filters sensitive to changes in video intensity and/or changes in depth. One implementation partitions a depth picture, and then refines the partitions based on a corresponding image picture. Another implementation filters a portion of a depth picture based on values for a range of pixels in the portion. For a given pixel in the portion that is being filtered, the filter weights a value of a particular pixel in the range by a weight that is based on one or more of location distance, depth difference, and image difference.

A method processes keypoint trajectories in a video, wherein the keypoint trajectories describe motion of a plurality of keypoints across pictures of the video over time, by first acquiring the video of a scene using a camera. Keypoints and associated feature descriptors are detected in each picture. The keypoints and associated features descriptors are matched between neighboring pictures to generate keypoint trajectories. Then, the keypoint trajectories are coded predictively into a bitstream, which is outputted.
