A piezoelectric fiber composite and a magnetoelectric laminate composite including the same are disclosed. The piezoelectric fiber composite includes a first protective layer having a first electrode, a second protective layer having a second electrode, and a piezoelectric fiber layer formed between the first and the second electrode and having piezoelectric fibers arranged in the longitudinal direction of the composite, wherein the piezoelectric fibers include a single-crystal piezoelectric material and are configured such that a &#x3c;011&#x3e; direction of the single crystal is identical to a thickness direction of the composite and a &#x3c;001&#x3e; direction of the single crystal is identical to a longitudinal direction of the composite, thus exhibiting superior piezoelectric strain properties and sensing properties. Also, the magnetoelectric laminate composite includes the piezoelectric fiber composite and a magnetostrictive layer including a magnetostrictive material such as nickel (Ni) or Metglas (FeBSi alloy), thus ensuring significantly improved magnetoelectric properties.

Single-crystal piezoelectric fiber composite and magnetoelectric laminate composite including the same

Disclosed is a magnetoelectric (ME) composite including both a piezoelectric material and a magnetostrictive material, wherein a piezoelectric single crystal material having high piezoelectric properties is used as the piezoelectric material, and a metal magnetostrictive material having high magnetostrictive properties is used as the magnetostrictive material, thus achieving an ME composite having a layered structure via adhesion. When the ME layered composite is manufactured such that a &#x3c;011&#x3e; crystal orientation of the piezoelectric single crystal material is set to a thickness direction, high ME voltage coefficient, which is at least doubled, compared to a conventional &#x3c;001&#x3e; crystal orientation, can be obtained, and such an effect is further maximized in the resonance of the composite.

A system and method for transmitting/receiving a multicast/broadcast signal in a communication system are provided, in which if the communication system includes at least one zone to which the same service is provided and the zone includes at least one ASN_GW and at least one BS connected to the ASN_GW, the ASN_GW generates a second multicast/broadcast signal using a received first multicast/broadcast signal according to information about the zone, generates time information indicating a time when the BS is to transmit the second multicast/broadcast signal, and transmits the second multicast/broadcast signal and the time information to the BS.

Disclosed herein are a highly dense and nano-grained NTC thermistor thick film and a method for preparing the same, and specifically, an NTC thermistor thick film vacuum deposited by spraying a spinel grained ceramic powder containing Ni and Mn on one side of the surface of a substrate using a room temperature powder spray in vacuum (AD) and a method for preparing the same. Provided are a Connection Admission Control (CAC) method and apparatus in a Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) system. The CAC method includes checking a class of a requested service; converting the transmission request rate of the service into the number of required air resource blocks by using an average block capacity of the checked class; and determining whether to admit or deny connection by comparing the number of required resource blocks with the number of available resource blocks.

Method for providing service based on service quality and an accounting method in a mobile communication system

A QoS-based call admission system and method for a mobile communication system. To establish a call for a mobile station according to the QoS of the call, upon request of setup of a call requiring a QoS guarantee, a base transceiver station determines whether a channel element is available. In the presence of an available channel element, the base transceiver station determines whether a remaining bandwidth can support a data rate required to guarantee the QoS. If the data rate is supported, the base transceiver station assigns the channel element and connects its intra switch to a base station controller. Then the base transceiver station transmits a call accept response signal to the base station controller.

System and method for call admission for a mobile communication system

Disclosed is a method for transmitting a packet through a plurality of physical links in a mobile communication system in which a base station controller (BSC) is connected to a base transceiver system (BTS) through the plurality of physical links. The method includes the steps of determining whether a specific service uses at least two links, when there is transmission data for the service; setting up a sequence number in the transmission packet, when the service uses at least two links; and transmitting the packet through a link selected from the two links. The determining step is performed when there is transmission data for the service, and the setting step is performed when the service uses at least two links.

Apparatus and method for multiplexing multiple end-to-end transmission links in a communication system

A base station controller (BSC) performs a handoff of a mobile terminal (MT) moving between cells of base transceiver stations (BTSs) in a mobile communication system. If a target BTS is selected as a handoff candidate for the MT as the MT moves from a cell of a source BTS in service toward a cell of the target BTS, the BSC transmits to the target BTS a first message for requesting the target BTS to buffer packets, and transmits packets to be transmitted to the MT to both the source BTS and the target BTS. If the target BTS is determined as a serving BTS for the MT, the BSC transmits to the target BTS a second message including a last sequence number in order to request the target BTS to transmit, to the MT, packets with sequence numbers following the last sequence number of a last packet transmitted from the source BTS to the MT, among the buffered packets.

Method for performing a handoff in a mobile communication system

An alloy-coated optical fiber and a fabricating method. In the alloy-coated optical fiber, a core is formed of a light transmitting material, a clad surrounds the outer circumferential surface of the core, and an indium-tin-silver coating layer is formed around the outer circumferential surface of the clad while maintaining the alloy temperature at substantially 5&deg; C. above the melting point of this indium-silver alloy coat.

Method for fabricating alloy-coated optical fiber

A method of unidirectionally aligning the whiskers during tape casting and a sintered silicon nitride laminate of controlled properties and microstructure through alignment of the reinforcing grains fabricated by using the method are disclosed. The whiskers are unidirectionally oriented by placing a row of guides 0.2-0.5 mm apart from each other at exit of the reservoir of the slip containing the whiskers during tape casting. The silicon nitride comprising 10-30 volume % of elongated large grains growing from the .beta.-Si.sub.3 N.sub.4 whiskers and oriented unidirectionally in the fine grained matrix is fully densified by gas pressure sintering at 1900.degree. C. It exhibits a fracture toughness value as high as 9.24 Mpa m normal to the whisker alignment according to the Evans-Charles' method disclosed in the Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 59 [7-8], 371-372 (1976).

Method of unidirectionally aligning whiskers during tape casting

An electrical discharge machinable MgO-Partially Stabilized Zirconia (PSZ) and titanium di-boride (TiB.sub.2) ceramic composite body of good mechanical properties and the method of making it are disclosed. The ceramic composite comprising less than 40% by weight of TiB.sub.2 balanced by 10 mole % of MgO-Partially Stabilized Zirconia is fully densified by pressureless sintering at 1850.degree. C.-1900.degree. C. and exhibits the fracture toughness (K.sub.IC) value of 8-11 MPa.multidot.m.sup.1/2 measured according to the indentation crack length method and Evans-Charles' method provided in Journal of the American Ceramic Society volume 59 �7-8!, 371-372 (1976) after annealing at 1320.degree.-1400.degree. C.
