A hub-mounted optical disk to eliminate the need for a separate stack ring while decreasing the overall height, a method of fabricating the optical disk, and an injection molding die for manufacturing an optical disk substrate. The hub-mounted optical disk includes a substrate having a hollow and an indented portion engraved to a predetermined depth on the inside of a non-recording surface where no information is recorded; and a hub including a plate that has a fitting hole therein and is engaged into the hollow and the indented portion and a central ring that is inserted into the fitting hole. The method of fabricating the hub-mounted optical disk includes mounting the hub onto a magnetic chuck, applying an ultra-violet (UV) hardening resin on the indented portion of the substrate, operating the magnetic chuck so that the plate is in contact with the indented portion, and curing the UV hardening resin by irradiating it with UV light. The injection molding die for manufacturing the optical disk substrate includes a stationary plate having an injection nozzle that allows resin forming the substrate to be injected, a stamper that has a predetermined information recording pattern, and a moving plate having a projecting portion at the center.

Hub-mounted optical disk having a reduced height

A disk cartridge including a lower case member in which a space portion to receive an optical disk is formed; an upper case member, joined to the lower case member, an opening portion to allow a reading/recording device to obtain access to the optical disk; a multi-shutter member, including shutters, installed at the lower case member to be able to slide, and to allow the opening portion to be exposed to the outside when the multiple-shutter member is moved in a direction of the insertion direction of the disk cartridge into a disk drive, such that the shutters overlap each other; and a locking member, installed at the lower case member, to fix the multiple-shutter member to the lower case member so that the multiple-shutter member cannot move arbitrarily.

Disk cartridge

A hybrid head to record and reproduce high density data. The hybrid head to record and reproduce data includes an element to record and reproduce data which is formed at the back side of a slider. The element to record and reproduce data includes an energy source to supply energy required to heat a predetermined region of a recording medium to be data-recorded, a magnetic field applier to apply a magnetic field to the predetermined region of the recording medium heated by the energy supplied from the energy source, a data reproducer to reproduce data from the recording medium, a channel to allow the magnetic field supplier to transmit the energy supplied from the energy source to the predetermined region of the recording medium, a heat shield element to prevent heat from being transmitted from the channel to other elements around the channel, a write pole covering the heat shield element, and a magnetic field generator to generate a magnetic field to the write pole. With this design, it is possible to prevent or minimize heat generated by a channel to transmit energy from being transmitted to other elements installed around the channel. In addition, it is possible to prevent the characteristics of the other elements around the channel from being changed due to the heat generated by the channel.

Hybrid writing and reading head to record data with high density

A disc cartridge and a disc drive apparatus. The disc cartridge includes an upper case and a lower case which form an internal space to accommodate a disc, and a pair of elastic protrusions formed at both sidewalls of the lower cases, which are elastically biased toward the internal space so that ends of the elastic protrusions support the disc. Surfaces are formed at the ends to slope toward the internal space so that the disc is located in an upper portion of the internal space and the pair of elastic protrusions supports the disc. The disc descends on the surfaces when the pair of elastic protrusions are opened and the disc is then located in a lower portion of the internal space.

Disc drive cartridge and disc drive apparatus to prevent scratching of a disc when the disc is loaded into a disc drive

A disk cartridge which includes a case having an upper wall, a lower wall, and a sidewall, which form an inner receiving space in which a disk is inserted, an opening formed in at least one of the upper wall and lower wall of the case to allow a recording/reproducing unit of a disk drive to access the disk therethrough, and an inlet hole formed at the sidewall of the case to allow the disk to be inserted into and withdrawn from the case therethrough.

A disk cartridge is provided. The disk cartridge includes a case for containing a disk and a transparent window installed to seal the case. An external light accesses the disk through the transparent window of the disk cartridge. However, foreign matter such as dust is prevented from entering the disk cartridge.

An optical reading and writing system including a base; an optical disk rotatably mounted on the base; an optical pickup including an objective lens, focusing a light beam to form a light spot on a recording surface of the optical disk; an actuator arm mounted on the base such that the actuator arm can pivot in the radial direction of the optical disk by a voice coil motor; a load beam supported by the actuator arm, and capable of moving slightly up and down and in the radial direction of the optical disk by an external force; a flexure attached to the load beam, supporting a slider to enable the slider to contact the recording surface; and a driving unit mounted on free ends of the actuator arm and the load beam, providing a driving force in the radial direction to the free end of the load beam.

Optical reading and writing system

An optical pickup apparatus for an optical disk drive records or reproduces data on or from an optical disk, includes an optical head section including an object lens focusing an incident light on the optical disk, a slider on which the object lens is mounted, wherein the slider floats over the optical disk by an air bearing generated between the optical disk and the slider, a bobbin on which the slider is mounted, and a flexure disposed between the slider and the bobbins elastically supporting the slider. A driving unit drives the slider in a tracking direction and a focusing direction. In the above construction, the slider floats over a recording surface of the optical disk due to an air bearing and a near field between the object lens and the optical disk can be controllably maintained.

Optical pickup apparatus for optical disk drive and having a flexured floating slider

In a slim type optical disc drive, an optical pickup unit and an optical pickup transport assembly are installed on a main base disposed in a housing having a lower case and an upper case. A spindle motor is mounted on a tray so as to slide in and out of the housing. A spindle motor printed circuit board is mounted on the tray, and a main printed circuit board is fixed to the lower case. A flexible printed circuit connects the spindle motor and main printed circuits boards. The tray includes a table which supports the spindle motor, and side frame bars located at sides of the tray and spaced apart from the table. A pair of guide ribs are arranged in the housing to guide the movement of the table. In the slim type optical disc drive, only the spindle motor is disposed on the tray.

Slim type optical disc drive

An air-bearing slider for an optical disk drive for recording/reproducing information onto/from an optical disk while floating and moving at a predetermined height from the rotatably installed optical disk due to a dynamic air pressure is disclosed. The air-bearing slider includes a slider main body having an objective lens installation hole formed through the slider main body so that an objective lens can be installed, and an opening formed through the slider main body at one side portion of the objective lens installation hole, so that air flow flowing under the slider main body can flow out through the opening via the objective lens installation hole when the slider is floating as a result of dynamic air pressure.

Air-bearing slider for optical disk drive

An optical pickup device including a slider on which an objective lens is mounted and which is elastically movably supported by a support member, an air bearing member provided in the slider so that a lifting force pushes the slider away from the disk according to air flow generated during rotation of the disc, and an actuator to change the position of the objective lens mounted on the slider in a focus direction relative to the disc. In the optical pickup device, the slider is lifted from a disk using a lifting force acting on the air bearing member and simultaneously the position of an objective lens is adjusted by a piezoelectric device to perform focus control. Therefore, collision between a disk and an objective lens is avoided, and a focal position is effectively controlled just by changing only the position of the objective lens, thereby increasing the reliability of a recording and/or reproducing operation.

Optical pickup device

A negative pressure air bearing slider includes a pair of front rails having a predetermined air inlet passage interposed therebetween at the front side of the slider where air enters, a negative pressure rail disposed at the rear of the front rails and forming air outlet passages connected to the air inlet passage, and forming a negative pressure space where negative pressure is generated according to the flow of air at the rear thereof, and a rear rail disposed at the rear of the negative pressure space, where a magnetic head is installed. In the slider, a stepped portion protruding toward the air outlet passages is formed at the negative pressure rail.

A swing-arm type optical recording and reproducing apparatus and an optical disk applicable to the same. The optical disk includes a substrate having an information recording surface to record and reproduce an information signal, and a protective layer which is provided on the information recording surface and whose surface facing a slider is a flat even surface so that variations in a floating height of the slider can be reduced. The optical recording and reproducing apparatus further includes, an optical head having a light source provided at a swing arm to emit light of a predetermined wavelength; an optical path changing means provided in the optical path of the light emitted from the light source for changing the proceeding path of incident light; a collimating lens installed at the slider to preliminarily converge the light emitted from the light source and entering via the optical path changing means; an objective lens installed at the slider to converge the light which is emitted from the light source and enters via the optical path changing means to form an optical spot on the optical disk; and a photodetector to receive the light which is reflected from the optical disk and enters via the objective lens, the collimating lens, and the optical path changing means. The optical head detects an information signal and an error signal in order to reduce defocus due to variations in ambient temperature and variations in the wavelength of the light of the light source.
