A text input method and apparatus of a portable terminal supporting a virtual keypad including a plurality of character keys are provided. The method includes displaying, when a text input mode is activated, a virtual keypad including a plurality of key regions, each key region being assigned plural letters, compounding, when a touch movement event is detected on the virtual keypad, letters assigned to a first key region to which a touch-down event is made with letters assigned to a second key region to which a touch-up event is made into compound letters, displaying the compound letters, and inputting, when a compound letter is selected, the compound letter selected.

A slide type mobile terminal and a method for preventing unintended operation of the same are disclosed. When an event is generated, indicating movement of the assemblies of the mobile terminal with respect to each other, a determination is made whether the movement is detected within a preset time after generation of at least one of a touch down event and a touch up event, and ignores those events determined to be within the preset time by not delivering the touch events to a related application program.

Mobile terminal and method for preventing unintended operation of the same

A passage alert system and method using a Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) technology are provided. The method and system are capable of alerting when a mobile terminal having an RFID tag passes the entrance at which an RFID reader is installed, whereby the owner is therefore aware of the mobile terminal. In the passage alert method of the present invention, when the first communication terminal passes an entrance at which the second communication terminal is installed, one of the first and second communication terminals resets the passage mode of the first communication terminal with an output of an alert message corresponding to the changed passage mode such that the owner may be aware of the first communication terminal, thereby reducing the possibility of losing the first mobile communication terminal.
