A drive and motor system and method for a six phase machine with negligible common-mode voltage is provided. The six-phase machine includes six phase windings divided into at least two windings groups configured to generate a zero common-mode pulse width modulation. The drive and motor system and method can also include at least one direct current source and a six phase inverter switching between positive and negative power of the at least one direct current source.

An electronic magnetic bearing fault-tolerant drive module includes a first plurality of switching elements and a second plurality of switching elements. At least one winding is interposed between the first plurality of switching elements and the second plurality of switching elements. The first and second switching elements are configured to selectively operate in a first mode and a second mode to generate an electromagnetic field. The electronic magnetic bearing fault-tolerant drive module is configured to detect one or more electrical faults including an open-circuit fault of at least one of the first and second switching elements.

A system includes a paralleled inverter circuit and a controller. The paralleled inverter circuit includes a first inverter and a second inverter. The controller is configured to control a first plurality of switches of the first inverter and a second plurality of switches of the second inverter based upon a control vector. The controller controls the paralleled inverter circuit using a first unit vector for a first time period and controls the paralleled inverter circuit using a second unit vector for a second time period. The first unit vector and the second unit vector are selected based upon the control vector, and the first time period and the second time period are determined based upon the control vector.
