A WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) optical transmitter using a Fabry-Perot laser is disclosed. The WDM optical transmitter includes a light source for outputting incoherent light of a prescribed wavelength bandwidth, a circulator having the first to the third ports, for outputting the incoherent light received at the first port coupled to the light source to the second port, and outputting an optical signal received at the second port to the third port coupled to the external waveguide, a WGR (Waveguide Grating Router) having a multiplexing port (MP) coupled to the second port of the circulator and a plurality of demultiplexing ports (DPs), for performing WD (Wavelength Division) demultiplexing on the incoherent light received at the MP to output WD-demultiplexed signals to the plurality of DPs, and performing WD multiplexing on a plurality of channel signals received at the plurality of DPs to output WD-multiplexed signals to the MP, and a plurality of FB (Fabry-Perot) lasers respectively connected to the DPs of the WGR, each FP laser is comprised of a laser cavity, an antireflection coating layer deposited at one end of the laser cavity facing a corresponding DP, and a high reflection coating layer deposited at the other end of the laser cavity, whereby an optical injection efficiency increases and an influence of reflected light is reduced, resulting in facilitation of a wavelength-locked phenomenon.

Wavelength division multiplexing optical transmitter using Fabry-Perot laser

A light source apparatus for use with optical communication using external-injection light sources, and an optical communication system using the light source apparatus. The light source apparatus for optical communication includes external-injection light sources, and a multiplexer/demultiplexer. The multiplexer/demultiplexer provides light components spectrum-sliced broadband light from a broadband light source as respective external injection light inputs. The multiplexer/demultiplexer includes a first waveguide to transmit the broadband light and multiplexed light with a plurality of wavelengths, a plurality of second waveguides each to transmit light with an associated one of the wavelengths, and a plurality of optical filters each to pass light with an associated one of the wavelengths and to reflect the remaining wavelengths. The pass wavelength of each optical filter is set such that insertion loss distribution of the optical filters at the wavelengths is similar to a gain distribution of the injection light sources at the wavelengths.

Light source apparatus for WDM optical communication and optical communication system

Disclosed is a method for maintaining wavelength-locking of a Fabry-Perot laser regardless of a change of external temperature even though a temperature controller is not used, and a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) light source using the method, as an economical light source used in a WDM optical communication field. The WDM light source comprises a Fabry-Perot laser for injecting spectrum-spliced incoherent light to amplify and output only an oscillation mode matching with a wavelength of the injected light, and a bias controlling unit for adjusting a bias current supplied to the Fabry-Perot laser to a value adjacent to a threshold current of the Fabry-Perot laser, whose threshold current is changed according to a temperature and a relationship between the injected light changed depending to a temperature and a wavelength of the oscillation mode. Therefore, the bias current having a value adjacent to the threshold current of the Fabry-Perot laser is supplied to the Fabry-Perot laser, so that the Fabry-Perot laser can maintain an excellent transmission characteristic regardless of a change of temperature even though a temperature controller is not used.

Method for maintaining wavelength-locking of Fabry-Perot laser regardless of change of external temperature and WDM light source using the method

A method for maintaining the mode-locked state of a Fabry-Perot (FP) laser and a WDM light source using the same method for use in WDM optical communication are disclosed. The mode-locked state can be maintained irrespective of temperature change, without use of a temperature controller, by spectrum-slicing the incoherent light generated by a light source element and injecting the spectrum-sliced light to the FP laser, then the FP laser amplifies and outputs only a lasing mode coinciding with the wavelength of the injected light, wherein a lasing-mode interval of the FP laser is set to be less than a 3 dB linewidth of the injected light, so that at least one lasing mode exists inside the 3 dB linewidth of the injected light irrespective of changes in external temperature.

Method for maintaining mode-locked state of fabry-perot laser irrespective of temperature change and WDM light source using the same method

A reflective semiconductor optical amplifier light source is disclosed. The reflective semiconductor optical amplifier light source includes a transmissive type semiconductor optical amplifier for creating and amplifying spontaneous emission light, a reflector for reflecting amplified spontaneous emission light outputted from the semiconductor optical amplifier such that amplified spontaneous emission light is reflected back into the semiconductor optical amplifier, and a bandpass filter having a predetermined wavelength band width for limiting wavelength bands of the amplified spontaneous emission light capable of passing through the bandpass filter. In one aspect of the invention, the bandpass filter is interposed between the semiconductor optical amplifier and the reflector. In another aspect, a polarization filter is imposed to limit the reflected emission light to a predetermined polarization.

Reflective semiconductor optical amplifier light source

An optical transmitter module for creating an optical signal having the same wavelength as an incoherent light inputted thereinto is provided. The module includes a substrate, a multi-layer crystal growth layer including a first area for amplifying the incoherent light and the optical signal and a second area for creating an optical signal having the same wavelength as the incoherent light amplified by means of the first area, and an electrode unit for independently injecting currents into the areas of the multi-layer crystal growth layer. A light generated at a broadband light source is spectrum-sliced and injected into the optical transmitter module so that a wavelength division multiplexing light source is realised.

Optical transmitter module and wavelength division multiplexing light source using the same

Disclosed are an optical transceiver and an passive optical network using the same. The optical transceiver includes a polarization splitter for splitting injected light input from an outside of the optical transceiver into a first polarization component and a second polarization component, a light injected transmitter for receiving the first polarization component and outputting an optical signal generated based on the first polarization component, and an optical receiver for detecting an electrical signal based on the second polarization component.
