A liquid crystal composition includes a first compound represented by the following Chemical Formula 1 and a second compound represented by the following Chemical Formula 2. (herein, in Chemical Formula 1, R1 is an alkenyl group including a double bond and R2 is an alkyl group or an alkoxy group, and in Chemical Formula 2, R and R' are each independently an alkyl group or an alkoxy group).

Provided is a liquid crystal display including: a first substrate and a second substrate facing each other; a pixel electrode disposed on the first substrate; an opposing electrode disposed on the second substrate; a liquid crystal layer in vertical alignment mode interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate and including a plurality of liquid crystal molecules; and a tilt direction determining member determining tilt directions of the liquid crystal molecules when an electric field is generated in the liquid crystal layer, wherein the liquid crystal layer includes a first area and a second area in each of the first area and the second area, the liquid crystal molecules being aligned to have a pretilt without the electric field in the liquid crystal layer, and a pretilt angle of the liquid crystal molecules in the first area is larger a pretilt angle that of the liquid crystal molecules in the second area.

Liquid crystal display and manufacturing method thereof

A display device including a first gate line and a second gate line that extend in parallel with each other, a data line crossing the first and second gate lines to form a pixel region, a pixel electrode in the pixel region and including a main pixel electrode and a sub pixel electrode, which are connected to the first gate line and the data line, a control thin film transistor connected to the second gate line and the sub pixel electrode, and a gate driver. The gate driver outputs a first gate signal to the first gate line and a second gate signal to the second gate line. The first gate signal activates the first gate line during a first time and a second time following the first time, and the second gate signal activates the second gate line during the first time but not the second time.

A black matrix is disposed on a surface of a first base substrate having a switching element, a color filter is disposed on the switching element in a pixel area, a pixel electrode is disposed on the first base substrate having the color filter, and a first alignment layer is disposed on the pixel electrode to form a first substrate. A common electrode layer is disposed on a second base substrate, and a second alignment layer is disposed on the common electrode layer to form a second substrate. A liquid crystal composition including a reactive mesogen (RM) is interposed between opposing surfaces of the first and second substrates. The RM is cured to form a mesogen cured product on the first and second alignment layers. Accordingly, an RM having a planar structure increases curing speed, reduces, manufacturing time, and improves quality of the LCD panel.

A gate line and a data line are formed on a base substrate. A first sensor line is parallel with the gate line. A sensor gate electrode is extended from the first sensor line. A sensor active pattern having a plurality of island-type sub-active members is formed on the first sensor gate electrode. A second sensor line is parallel with the data line. A first sensor drain electrode is extended from the second sensor line at the sensor active pattern. A second sensor drain electrode corresponding to the first sensor gate electrode is formed on the sensor active pattern. A pixel electrode is electrically connected to the gate line and the data line. A sensor electrode part electrically connects the first and second sensor drain electrodes spaced apart from the pixel electrode. Light is reflected by the first and second sensor drain electrodes, which have an embossed shape.
