A disclosed apparatus may include at least one touch sensor and an integrated film that includes at least one antenna, wherein the integrated film is at least partially disposed on the at least one touch sensor such that the at least one touch sensor operates as a radiating element for the at least one antenna. Various embodiments set forth high-resolution liquid crystal displays and components thereof. In some embodiments, light emitted by a high-resolution green color liquid crystal display is combined, via a combiner, with light emitted by at least one lower-resolution red and blue color liquid crystal display. The red and blue color display(s) may include a single display or two displays positioned on opposing sides of the combiner. The combiner may be a dichroic or polarization-based combiner. Combined light from the green color display and the red and blue color display(s) is passed through collimating optics, such as a pancake lens or a Fresnel lens, toward a viewer's eye.

High-resolution liquid crystal displays

Embodiments relate to coordinating operation of an under-display camera and a portion of a display panel over the camera to reduce impact of light emitted from the display panel during light sensing periods of the under-display camera. Depending on the level of light in the surrounding of an electronic device, the light emission period of the display panel and the light sensing period of the under-display camera are adjusted. The timing of the light emission period and the light sensing period are controlled so that a row of pixels in the display panel is not in the light emission period when corresponding row or rows of sensors in the under-display camera are in the light sensing period. In this way, the under-display camera may capture images without the influence of light emitted from the display panel.

Scheme for operating under-display camera to prevent light interference from display

Ghost image formation due to reflections of image light by a display panel to an ocular lens may be suppressed by ensuring that the image light reflected by the lens does not get reflected by the display panel back towards the lens. To that end, the display panel may include a quarter-wave birefringent layer between the top polarizer of the display panel and a layer inside the display panel that the image light reflects from, such as a black grid layer or an active matrix layer.

A focusing lens is configured to focus display light for an eye of a user. A display is configured to emit the display light having an illumination profile that increases in brightness as a distance from a middle of the display increases. The focusing lens is configured to receive the display light and focus the display light as image light that has a brightness profile that has substantially uniform brightness across the image.

A display system may include 1) a plurality of electronic components, 2) an LCD screen that is heatable at a base heating rate by operation of the LCD screen and one or more of the plurality of electronic components, and 3) a heating subsystem for heating the LCD screen at an accelerated heating rate that is greater than the base heating rate to raise a temperature of the LCD screen above a threshold screen temperature. Apparatuses, systems, and methods for heating a liquid crystal display screen

Various aspects of the subject technology relate to display panels for head-mountable devices. A display panel may include a left-eye pixel array and a right-eye pixel array that are each rotated with respect to a horizontal defined by a straight line connecting the centers of the arrays. The rotated pixel arrays each include data lines and scan lines that extend at oblique angles relative to the horizontal. A liquid crystal layer of the display panel may include liquid crystal molecules having a default orientation at an oblique angle relative to both the data lines and the scan lines of both of the rotated pixel arrays. The rotated pixel arrays may each include pixel circuits arranged along the data lines and scan lines, each pixel circuit including a transparent electrode oriented at an oblique angle relative to both the scan lines and the data lines.

Rotated displays for electronic devices

The disclosed display device may include a display screen having (1) a front surface and (2) a pair of display regions that emit image light from the front surface, the pair of display regions separated from each other by a non-display region in a longitudinal direction of the display screen, each of the pair of display regions including a plurality of pixels arranged in a plurality of pixel rows and a plurality of pixel columns, the plurality of pixel rows and the plurality of pixel columns each extending obliquely relative to a peripheral edge of the front surface. The display device may also include a display driver circuit for driving the plurality of pixels of both of the pair of display regions, the display driver circuit disposed apart from the pair of display regions in a lateral direction of the display screen. Apparatus, systems, and methods for displaying images in rotated display regions of display screens

A display includes a display pixel array and a light bending assembly. The display pixel array is configured to generate display light. The light bending assembly is disposed over the display pixel array to receive the display light and generate compensated display light. The light bending assembly bends a given ray of the display light based on an incidence position that the given ray of the display light becomes incident upon the light bending assembly.

A display includes a display pixel array, a backlight emitter, and a lightguide. The backlight emitter provides illumination light. The lightguide receives the illumination light from the backlight emitter and distributes the illumination light to illuminate the display pixel array. The lightguide is configured to illuminate a viewing boundary of the display pixel array with an illumination gradient that fades from fully illuminated along a viewing portion to unilluminated along a non-viewing portion.

A headset includes a display block and an optics block. The display block includes a waveguide configured to receive light from a light source assembly, a plurality of extraction features that have a spatial distribution across one or more surfaces of the waveguide, wherein the plurality of extraction features out-couple light from the waveguide, and the spatial distribution is such that out-coupled light has a first non-uniform brightness distribution, and a display panel configured to modulate the out-coupled light to form image light, wherein the image light has a brightness distribution based in part on the first non-uniform brightness distribution. The optics block includes optical elements configured to direct the image light to an eyebox, and the optics block adds a second non-uniform brightness distribution that is offset by the first non-uniform brightness distribution, such that the image light directed to the eyebox has a target brightness distribution.

An image is received that includes red, green, and blue subpixel values for each pixel in the image. A dispersion adjustment profile is applied to the image to generate a dispersion-corrected image. The dispersion adjustment profile is specific to an optical assembly disposed over a display pixel array of a head mounted display. The dispersion-corrected image is rendered to the display pixel array of the head mounted display.

Digital color dispersion correction

Embodiments relate to estimating power consumption for displaying an image at a display device and sending a load signal indicating expected power consumption for displaying the image to the display device to enable the display device to adjust input voltage at its display integrated circuit (IC). The load signal may be received at a compensation circuit that generates and sends a control signal to a power IC in the display device so that the power IC adjusts its output voltage according to the control signal. In this way, the input voltage at the display IC is maintained relatively constant even when the power consumption changes to display different images.

The disclosed display device may include a display screen having (1) a front surface and (2) at least one display region that emits image light from the front surface, the at least one display region including a plurality of pixels arranged in a plurality of pixel rows and a plurality of pixel columns, the plurality of pixel rows and the plurality of pixel columns each extending obliquely relative to a peripheral edge of the front surface. The display device may also include a display driver circuit for driving the plurality of pixels of the at least one display region.
