An apparatus for cleaning trash from cotton lint utilizes a combing cylinder having a plurality of teeth covering its surface and extending therefrom in a manner to release the cotton lint to a cleaning cylinder. The combing cylinder surface moves slower than the cleaning cylinder to comb the lint as it is delivered to the cleaning cylinder. Means are provided to vary the speed of the combing cylinder to match the lint processing parameters, including negating lint combing all together.

Lint cleaner

A reclaimer cylinder for use in reclaiming cotton seeds containing spinnable lint from partially ginned cotton seeds utilizes channel saws mounted axially on a cylindrical body with axially closely spaced teeth that virtually eliminate the variation in likelihood the teeth will fail to grasp the fibers present on such cotton seeds. Triangular grid bars facilitate removal of fully ginned seeds that are not entrained in fibers of other seeds.

Method, apparatus and system for adding moisture to cotton fibers during the cotton ginning process

Apparatus is disclosed for enclosing bales of materials with at least four substantially rectilinear sides in flexible sheet material tubes having one open end into which the bales are inserted leaving the tube open end projecting loosely beyond the end of the bale utilizing structure temporarily placed inside the tube open end tending to resist inward movement of said tube such that the tube end may be formed into pleats at the four corners of the end of the bale and structure external of the tube cooperating to form and fold the pleats against the bale end surface where they are affixed.

Automatic bale wrapping apparatus

An apparatus for cleaning foreign matter from separated tufts of fiber uses a revolving open reel type structure mounted within a porous housing to separate a conveying air stream from tufts of fiber conveyed thereby and deliver the tufts to a toothed cleaning cylinder which passes beneath a plurality of cleaning bars. The open reel utilizes brush like outer surfaces to sweep tufts of fiber from the housing back into the air stream adjacent the cleaning cylinder.

A high speed roller gin for seed cotton with variable length fibers has its components defined in accordance with the formula RKBS&#x3c;(2SR-2MD)*RKSS/GRSS where, the rotary knife circumferential blade (RKBS) spacing is less than 2-times the seed release distance from the tip of the stationary knife (SR) minus 2-times the minimum distance the seed surfaces are allowed to approach the tip of the stationary knife (MD) multiplied by the rotary knife surface speed (RKSS) and divided by the ginning roller surface speed (GRSS). A seed cotton infeed slide further limits the exposure of the seed directly against the tip of the stationary knife to reduce the ginning of the undesirable short fibers. A process for using such gins is also disclosed.

Roller gin apparatus, method and system

A rigid cage cotton gin includes a feeder that delivers seed cotton locks to be ginned. A doffing cylinder at the discharge of the feeder casts seed cotton locks into a bonnet housing, with air inlet vents in the bonnet housing deflecting the seed cotton locks onto a revolving rigid cage having a series of sifting bars that are fixedly mounted thereto. The sifting bars are spaced-apart to define a series of slots. The rigid cage is rotated for seed cotton locks to be drawn to the slots between the sifting bars, and the fibers will be drawn through the slots by air currents flowing through the slots. A fiber-engaging cylinder is mounted within the rigid cage, with the outer surface of the fiber-engaging cylinder abutting the interior surfaces of the sifting bars. The sifting bars are contoured to restrain the cotton seed from moving closer than a predetermined distance from the surface of the fiber-engaging cylinder to control the minimum fiber length removed. The outer surface of fiber-engaging cylinder has a very high coefficient of friction against cotton fibers, but a relatively low coefficient of friction against the inside surfaces of the sifting bars for the fiber-engaging cylinder to draw the desired fibers away from the cotton seed.

Rigid cage cotton gin

An apparatus for separating foreign matter from fiber tufts includes an air duct in which fiber tufts are pneumatically conveyed into the system via a high speed air stream. The air duct provides an air stream that conveys the fiber tufts with trash on to a revolving cleaning cylinder having teeth to engage the fiber tufts at a velocity that is sufficient to prevent agglomeration of the fiber tufts on a cylinder. The fiber tufts and trash thereby engage a separating means without agglomeration of the fiber tufts. The fiber tufts and trash further engage a streamer plate and grid bars to separate the trash from the fiber tufts such that the clean fiber tufts are distributed to a lint flue. The apparatus may further include a perforated cylinder in close proximity with the revolving cleaning cylinder that allows air to flow there-through, but that prevents penetration of the perforated cylinder surface by the desired fiber tufts. The use of the perforated cylinder provides an efficient means to cause the fiber tufts to engage the revolving cleaning cylinder without agglomeration to remove the undesired trash and deliver the desirable fiber tufts into a battery condenser.

A bale tying apparatus for use with a baling press distinguished from the prior art mechanisms in that the articulated arms which shape wire ties about a bale also incorporate elements on the ends thereof to effect the tying of the wires without engagement of the wires with positioning surfaces in the follow block of the press. Thus the tying function is made more reliable and is independent of the follow block precise positioning. A wire loop on at least one end of the wire tie remains in contact with the arm mechanism until the wire knot is made up. The apparatus may use wire loop holding devices at the ends of both arms or may use a housing carried on the end of one arm with an opening for insertion of the other end by the other arm.
