An insertion sleeve for a pipe coupling. The coupling includes a rigid stiffener tube in a fixed position within a shell, the stiffener tube having an external diameter less than the internal diameter of a pipe to be secured by the coupling. The insertion sleeve includes a cylindrical portion having an external diameter less than the internal diameter of the pipe, a first end of the sleeve which may be axially inserted over the stiffener tube, and a second end of the sleeve having a shoulder to abut the pipe after axial insertion of the pipe over the first end and the cylindrical portion and having a tapered opening in angular relation to the axis of the cylindrical portion.

An end plug for a stab-type coupler for a plastic pipe, the coupler having a first shell with a passageway therethrough. The end plug includes a hollow, cylindrical portion having a first end and a second end. An end wall is sealably attached to the cylindrical portion first end. External threads are formed on the cylindrical portion at the first end wherein the external threads engage internal threads on an end of the first shell. At least one vent hole is provided in the cylindrical portion of the end plug between the internal threads and the second end with the vent hole allowing fluid to vent when the external threads are partially unthreaded from the internal threads on the shell.

A repair fitting is provided for sealably connecting ends of a pipeline, when a damaged section of the pipeline has been removed. In a preferred embodiment, the pipeline ends are connected using the repair fitting with two stab fittings. The repair fitting includes a first and second piston and a first and second cylinder, wherein the first piston is slidable in the first cylinder and the second piston is slidable in the second cylinder. In an alternate embodiment, two fusion joints are used with the repair fitting to sealably connect the ends of the pipeline. A method is provided for making a repair fitting and a method is also provided for repairing a damaged section of a pipeline.

A plastic pipe end forming tool to form both inside and outside bevels on a pipe end. An elongated body has a cavity constituting a cylindrical channel. A pair of opposed protrusions extend into the cylindrical channel to form a V-shaped space to receive the pipe end therein and to allow rotation of the pipe in the cylindrical channel and thereby form bevels on the pipe end.

A coupling for securing a plastic pipe. The coupling has a rigid hollow coupling shell with a passageway through it. A rigid stiffener tube is positioned internally of the shell, the stiffener tube having an external diameter slightly less than the internal diameter of the pipe. The stiffener tube has an external circumferential groove spaced from its outer end. A toroidal elastomeric seal is positioned within the stiffener tube circumferential groove. When a pipe end portion is inserted into the coupler shell, the stiffener tube extends telescopically within the interior of the pipe end portion and the seal engages the interior of the pipe to seal the interior of the pipe to the interior of the stiffener tube. A rigid gripper positioned within the coupler shell engages the exterior surface of the pipe and prevents the pipe from being extracted from the coupler shell.

A coupler for securing at least one pipe having a planar end. A hollow rigid coupler shell and a rigid tube stiffener are secured in the shell by a hub member, the stiffener having an external diameter less than an internal diameter of the pipe. The hub member has an internal diameter less than an external diameter of the pipe, the hub member having at least one tubular extension which will engage the pipe planar end. The coupler shell has a narrowing internal portion with a separate straight internal portion. At least one hollow follower is provided in the coupler shell straight portion adjacent the hub member tubular extension and at least one flexible hollow boot is movably retained within the coupler shell internal straight and narrowing portions, with a plurality of serrations being provided on an interior surface of the boot. At least one gripper is provided in the coupler shell to prevent the pipe from exiting the coupler shell, whereby the pipe can be positioned within the coupler shell to encompass a portion of the stiffener, the planar end of the pipe abutting the hub and between the hub member tubular extension and the stiffener.

The present invention is a unitary pipe coupler having an internally mounted hollow tube stiffener which extends through the coupler. The stiffener serves as a guide over which ends of the pipes slide as the pipes are inserted into the coupler and provides communication within the coupler between the two pipes. As the pipes are inserted into the coupler, each pipe passes consecutively through an opening provided in the coupler, an O-ring, a plurality of rigid backward oriented gripper serrations provided on a gripper, a plurality of backward oriented flexible sealing serrations provided on a front boot seal, until the end of each pipe rests against a flexible boot seal which abuts a hub for mounting the stiffener to the coupler. The gripper serrations prevent the pipes from being pulled or pushed outwardly away from the coupler.
