A planer apparatus for cutting a selected upper portion of a roadway surface to coincide with a preselected reference plane, comprising a main frame drivingly supported by a drive assembly, the main frame carrying a planing assembly comprising a rotating cutter drum assembly and a cutter drive assembly. The cutter drive assembly comprises a pair of cutter power assemblies which are disposed on one side of the main frame and which are connected to a rotating hub member. The rotating hub member is carried by load-bearing hub support surfaces, with the rotating hub member rotatably driving the cutter drum assembly. The planer apparatus further comprises an upper material lifting conveyor for elevating and moving roadway material disengaged from the roadway by the planing assembly. The upper material lifting conveyor features an upper conveyor cover connecting the side members of the upper conveyor frame, with the conveyor motor assembly mounted on the upper conveyor frame between the side members. A spray bar assembly cleans the non-transport surface of the conveyor belt of the upper material lifting conveyor. The planer apparatus may be powered either by a main or auxiliary drive unit, with the exhaust discharge system of the main drive unit disposed in heat-transferring relationship to a water spray system providing dust control for the apparatus.

Roadway planing apparatus

A wheeled roadway planing machine in which the wheels are pivotable by individual hydraulic rams for steering purposes. Each ram is controlled by a rotary, blocked-center valve and the valves are simulataneously actuated by a linkage which establishes a pattern of off-center displacements of their valve members to initiate pivoting of the wheels. The valves are mounted on pivotable wheel representation members which pivot with the wheels, via cables connecting the representation members to support shafts upon which the wheels are mounted, to return the valves to their blocked-center positions as the wheels pivot to a pattern of positions on the chassis of the machine similar to the pattern of displacements of the valve members resulting from operation of the linkage. A cutting drum is mounted on the chassis to form a cut in the roadway, such cut having a shape determined by the position of the chassis on the support shafts. Such position and the depth of each side of the cut are shown by scales, mounted on the chassis near each end of the drum and near the rear end of the chassis, and pointers mounted on rods positioned by the roadway surface. String lines, extending between supports pivotally attached to the ends of the chassis, provide a grade reference for control of the position of the chassis relative to the roadway. Portions of the supports which engage the roadway are laterally positionable on the chassis for selection of a grade line.

Road planing machine

A construction machine is provided with a flywheel having a torque limiter which permits the flywheel to slip when a rotationally driven cutting tool of the machine is halted. The torque limiter is spring loaded to eliminate the need for adjustment which might otherwise be occasioned by wear.

An improved sidebank excavator for removing earth from the side of a hill or other embankment, the excavator having a fixed, bidirectional horizontal earth removal assembly; a rotating, bidirectional vertical earth removal assembly; a conveyor assembly for conveying particulate material deposited on a receiving portion thereof to a discharge portion thereof remote from the receiving portion; and a plurality of independently vertically adjustable track drive assemblies.

A slipform paving apparatus having a variable width frame assembly supported upon independently adjustable and steerable leg and track assemblies that are positionable in a paving profile or in a travelling profile. A detachable steering cable feedback and follower assembly interconnects a track assembly on one side to the respective track assembly on the other side, providing potential single side steering control. Road building implements include in sequence and in close proximity a traversing paddle assembly, a height adjustable vibrator assembly, a variable height strike-off assembly, a vibrated grout screed assembly, a profile pan assembly, and a float pan assembly cooperating with retractable slipforming means to form a finished concrete road lane upon a substrate. The implements are modularly designed so as to be capable of being parted and increased in road width building capability by the interdisposition of extension attachments between sections of each implement.
