Development system coatings

A polyimide film component useful as fusing films and having electrically conductive doped metal oxide fillers dispersed therein, the fusing film having a surface resistivity of from about 10,to about 10,ohm/sq, and optionally provided on the polyimide film a conformable layer, or optionally in the following order, both a conformable intermediate layer and an outer release layer are provided on the polyimide film.

Polyimide and doped metal oxide fuser components

A film component having a) a haloelastomer with halogenated monomers, polyorganosiloxane monomers, or both halogenated and polyorganosiloxane monomers, and b) a doped metal oxide, preferably antimony doped tin oxide, dispersed therein, wherein the film component is useful as components in xerographic processes.

A process for preparing a toner donor roll having an integral electrode pattern involving: (a) providing a cylindrically shaped insulating member; (b) coating the insulating member with a photo or thermally sensitive composition comprised of a polymeric material and a conductive metal nucleating agent; (c) patterning the composition, resulting in a first composition portion corresponding to the electrode pattern and a second composition portion; and (d) depositing conductive metal on the first composition portion, resulting in the electrode pattern which is capable of being electrically biased to detach toner particles from the donor roll. In an alternative embodiment, there is provided an insulating member comprised of an insulating polymeric material and a conductive metal nucleating agent.

Process for preparing electroded donor rolls

A composition having a) a haloelastomer with halogenated monomers, polyorganosiloxane monomers, or both halogenated and polyorganosiloxane monomers, and b) a doped metal oxide, preferably antimony doped tin oxide, dispersed or contained therein, wherein the composition can be formed into films or outer layers of components useful in xerographic processes.

An image protecting conditioning roll for conditioning developed images in a liquid immersion development reproduction machine. The image protecting conditioning roll includes a rigid, conductive and porous core; an absorbent intermediate layer formed over the rigid core; and an inelastic image protecting top, outer layer formed over the absorbent intermediate layer, for contacting and protecting an image being conditioned, by preventing undesirable image offset and image smearing.

A dielectric image receiving member is disclosed which comprises a substrate layer, a porous plasma-sprayed dielectric layer formed on the surface of the substrate layer, and a dielectric polymeric coating material filling at least those pores opening at the surface of the oxide layer. Most preferably, the plasma-sprayed layer is a metal oxide and the coating material is a glass resin.

Dielectric image receiving member

A method and apparatus for producing a multi-image or multi-color image utilize an intermediate transfer member that is a single layer of fluorocarbon elastomer. The method produces high quality images that do not suffer from image or color shifting or degradation. The single layer intermediate transfer member can contain different zones of electrical properties within the single layer.

Fluorocarbon elastomer single layer intermediate transfer member

A method of fabricating a controlled and uniform cell size blotter roll for blotting liquid images consisting of toner particles and carrier liquid. The method includes the step of mixing a first grade of salt having first particles of a first uniform size with a polymer material so as to form a first mixture. The method next includes a step of extruding the first mixture to form an extruded sleeve having intimately compacted polymer material and salt particles, an outer surface, and an inner surface defining a hollow interior. The method then includes curing the extruded sleeve until rigid and dry; abrading the outer surface and the inner surface of the extruded sleeve so as to remove any extrusion induced skin layer and to increase a number of open cells on each surface; applying an adhesive layer onto the abraded outer surface; forming a surface layer by coating the adhesive layer with powder particles of a second mixture consisting of a polymer material and a second grade of salt having second particles of a second, uniform size substantially less than the uniform size of the particles of the first grade of salt; leeching the particles of the first and the second grades of salt from the surface layer, and from the extruded sleeve, in order to form a conformable, compound open cell foam sleeve having controlled uniform cells and the desired hollow interior; and inserting into the desired hollow interior a rigid core having connections for connecting to a vacuum system.

Method of fabricating a microporous surface blotter roll

An intermediate transfer member achieves substantially 100% toner transfer by containing a fluorocarbon elastomer containing less than 60 mole % vulnerable sites in the fluorocarbon chain. A high resolution image can be produced in an image developing system containing such a fluorocarbon elastomer. The fluorocarbon elastomer reduces the charge exchange between toner particles and the intermediate transfer member, and also reduces charge exchange between charge directors in liquid developers and the intermediate transfer member.

Method for transferring a toner image

An intermediate transfer member includes a base layer and a top thermoplastic film forming polymer layer. The base layer can include carbon and the thermoplastic film forming polymer layer can include electrical property regulating materials. This intermediate transfer member shows improved mechanical as well as electrical properties. It can be employed in an electrophotographic imaging device having at least one photoreceptor and can print an image on a suitable substrate such as paper with improved toner image formation.

A roller for improved conditioning of an image formed from a liquid developer comprised of toner particles and liquid carrier. A wire mesh uniformly covering an inner layer of the roller uniformly distributes an electrical bias closer to the surface of the roller and to the adjacent image bearing surface. The electrical bias has the same sign polarity as that of the toner particles of the image, to electrostatically repel and prevent the toner particles from entering the roller, and for compacting the toner particles to the image. The wire mesh reduces the electrical requirements of the materials used for the roller.

Apparatus and method for improved liquid developer image conditioning

A roller for controlling the application of carrier liquid to an image bearing member in an electrostatographic reproduction apparatus having a rigid porous electroconductive supportive core, a conformable microporous covering provided around the core, and a pressure controller. The pressure controller is located to provide a positive or negative pressure within the porous core and across a cross section of the core and covering.
