Two-circuit evaporators

An evaporator may be provided comprising a manifold, a plurality of micro-channel passageways, a distributor, and a separator. The manifold may comprise a shell defining a cavity. The plurality of micro-channel passageways may extend outwardly from the shell of the manifold, wherein the cavity may be in fluid communication with the plurality of micro-channel passageways. The distributor may comprise an inlet, an elongated body extending into the cavity of the manifold and defining a lumen, and a plurality of openings arranged on an outer surface of the elongated body and spaced along a length of the elongated body, wherein the openings may be configured to allow fluid communication between the lumen and the cavity of the manifold. The separator may be positioned between the plurality of openings within the cavity of the manifold.

Micro-channel evaporator having compartmentalized distribution

A heat exchanger assembly having a manifold, a partition member inserted into the interior cavity of the manifold through an open end such that the partition member cooperates with the interior surface of the manifold to partition the interior cavity into a manifold chamber and a distributor/collector chamber. The partition member and distributor/collector chamber function together as a distributor/collector tube within the manifold. The partition member includes a plurality of orifices along a length of the partition member, two opposite facing flange portions along the length of the partition member, a bulkhead panel extending from an end of the partition member adjacent the open end of the manifold, and a spring locator tab panel extending from an end of the partition member opposite of the bulk head panel, wherein the spring locator tab panel is biased against the closed end.

Method of manufacturing a heat exchanger assembly having a sheet metal distributor/collector tube

A heat exchanger assembly having a first manifold, a second manifold spaced from the first manifold, and a plurality of refrigerant tubes in hydraulic communication with the first manifold and the second manifold. The second manifold includes a first end, a second end opposite from the first end, and a refrigerant inlet adjacent the first end. The plurality of refrigerant tubes includes tube ports. A portion of the tube ports are selectively obstructed such that a refrigerant entering into the second manifold through the refrigerant inlet flows substantially uniformly across the plurality of refrigerant tubes from the second manifold to the first manifold. At least one of the obstructed tube ports includes an inserted sliver of braze amendable material, pinched closed, or formed by inserting a pin of reduced diameter into the selected ports and then squeezing the port from the outside to size it and then removing the pin.

Heat exchanger assembly having a refrigerant distribution control using selective tube port closures

The disclosure presents a heat exchanger assembly having a first manifold, a second manifold spaced from the first manifold, a plurality of refrigerant tubes extending between and in hydraulic communication with the first and second manifolds, a plurality of corrugated fins inserted between the plurality of refrigerant tubes, and a condensate extractor having a comb baffle portion with fingers inserted between the plurality of refrigerant tubes and a conveyance portion. The comb baffle portion is configured to extract condensate from between the plurality of refrigerant tubes and the conveyance portion is configured to convey condensate away from the heat exchanger assembly.

A bending support having a planar bracing member with a length (L) that is substantially equal to that of the inner diameter (I.D.) of the manifold header that the bending support is ultimately inserted in. Extending perpendicularly from a surface of the bracing member is a pair of bracketing members. The pair of bracketing member and the portion of the planar bracing member therebetween defines a refrigerant conduit clip. The interior surface of the refrigerant conduit clip includes a skived pattern defining a plurality of teeth or protrusions that aids in the attachment of the refrigerant conduit clip onto an internal refrigerant conduit. An aperture located on the planar bracing member between the pair of bracketing member provides an unobstructed path for refrigerant flow to the refrigerant conduit.

Manifold bending support

A method is provided to use a bending support to manufacture a heat exchanger assembly. The method includes the steps of providing a bending support having a bracing member, affixing a refrigerant conduit onto the bracing member, inserting the refrigerant conduit and the bending support into a manifold header, positioning the manifold onto work a surface of a mandrel, such that bracing member of the bending support is substantially perpendicularly to the work surface of the mandrel, and bending the manifold onto the working surface of mandrel forming an inner radius of bent, such that the bracing member supports the inner diameter of the manifold header, thereby preventing the deforming of the inner radius of the bent manifold header.

Manifold bending support and method for using same

A heat exchanger assembly that includes an outlet header/manifold defining an outlet cavity, an outlet tube in fluidic communication with the outlet cavity, and a heat exchanger core. The outlet tube and the outlet cavity cooperate to reduce a temperature value range across the heat exchanger core by equalizing refrigerant distribution between the refrigerant tubes within the heat exchanger core. The length of the heat exchanger headers/manifolds may be increased for a predetermined packaging width because the outlet tube and inlet conduit may exit the headers/manifolds perpendicularly rather than axially, allowing the heat exchanger core width to be increased. The increased heat exchanger core width allows additional refrigerant tubes to be included in the heat exchanger core, providing decreased air pressure difference for air flowing through the heat exchanger assembly and increased heat capacity of the heat exchanger assembly.

An core unit for a heat exchanger being bent about an axis perpendicular to the core unit's headers. Tubes establish fluid communication between the core unit's headers, and a bend relief spacer is disposed between first and second groups of tubes. During the bending process, the bend relief spacer facilitates the bend and ultimately maintains the performance of the core unit.
